Daily Inspiration: Meet The Otaha Family

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Otaha Family.

Hi The Otaha Family, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Our inspiration came from something very close to our hearts: our daughter, Moeata.

As parents, we have always believed that culture is one of the most valuable gifts we can pass on to the next generation. We wanted our daughter to grow up knowing where she comes from, understanding the beauty of her Tahitian heritage, and feeling proud of her roots.

What started as a desire to preserve our culture for Moeata eventually grew into something much bigger. We realized that many families were looking for the same connection, to culture, community, identity, and belonging. That realization inspired us to create both Moeata LUAU Entertainment and Na’i Tahiti Nui Tahitian Academy.

We named our entertainment company after our daughter because she has always been our inspiration. Through these organizations, we hope to preserve and share the traditions that have been passed down to us, so that they may continue to live on through future generations.

Today, one of our greatest joys is seeing students and families embrace the Tahitian culture, build confidence, create lifelong friendships, and develop a deeper appreciation for the values that our ancestors taught us. While our mission has expanded to serve the community, at its heart it remains the same! to honor our heritage and pass it on to the next generation, beginning with our daughter, Moeata as she is the founder of our Tahitian Academy!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many small business owners, we have faced challenges that required patience, faith, and perseverance.

Balancing family life, a full-time career, teaching, rehearsals, performances, and business responsibilities has not always been easy. There have been moments when resources were limited, schedules were demanding, and the road ahead seemed uncertain.

Another challenge has been preserving the authenticity of the Tahitian culture while helping people understand that ʻOri Tahiti is much more than dancing and entertainment. It is history, language, storytelling, identity, and a way of life.

Through every challenge, we have remained committed to our mission. We have learned that success is not measured by how quickly you achieve your goals but by your willingness to continue moving forward, learning, and serving others. Faith, family, and community have carried us through every obstacle and continue to be the foundation of everything we do.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the co-founder of Na’i Tahiti Nui Tahitian Academy and the founder and Fire Knife Warrior performer of Moeata LUAU Entertainment, a family-owned Polynesian entertainment company based in South Florida.

Together with my wife Maeva our mission is to preserve, share, and celebrate the beauty of the Tahitian and Polynesian culture through authentic dance, music, drumming, cultural education, and live performances. Through our academy, we welcome students of all ages and backgrounds, creating a positive environment where they can learn not only the art of ʻOri Tahiti but also important values such as discipline, confidence, respect, perseverance, and cultural appreciation.

The inspiration behind both our academy and entertainment company has always been our daughter, Moeata. We wanted to ensure that our culture, traditions, and values would continue to be passed on to the next generation. What began as a gift for our daughter has grown into a community where families can connect, learn, and celebrate the Polynesian culture together.

What I am most proud of is not the performances or the awards, but the people. I am proud of every student who has found confidence through dance, every family that has become part of our academy, and every opportunity we have had to share our culture with others. Watching our students challenge themselves, grow stronger, and achieve goals they once thought were impossible is one of the greatest rewards of this journey.

What sets us apart is our commitment to authenticity, family, and community. We don’t simply teach dance steps or perform shows, we share the stories, traditions, values, and spirit behind the culture. Our students become part of our extended family, and our goal is for every person who walks through our doors to feel welcomed, supported, and inspired.

At the heart of everything we do is a simple belief: culture is a gift meant to be shared, preserved, and passed on. We are honored to serve as ambassadors of the Tahitian culture and to help ensure that these beautiful traditions continue to thrive for generations to come.

How do you define success?
Success, to me, is not measured by titles, awards, or financial achievements. Success is waking up each day knowing that you are living with purpose, staying true to your values, and making a positive impact on the lives of others.

As a husband, father, business owner, performer, and teacher, I have learned that true success comes from serving others, preserving what matters most, and leaving something meaningful behind for future generations. Some of my proudest moments have nothing to do with being on stage. They come from seeing a student gain confidence, watching a family reconnect through culture, or seeing my daughter pursue her dreams while remaining proud of her heritage.

I believe success is also having the courage to challenge yourself, continue learning, and keep moving forward even when the path is difficult. Growth happens when we step outside of our comfort zones and trust the process.

Most importantly, I define success by faith, family, and legacy. If I can help preserve the beauty of the Tahitian culture, inspire others to believe in themselves, and leave the world a little better than I found it, then I consider my life a success.

At the end of the day, success is not about what we achieve for ourselves, it is about what we give, what we share, and what we leave behind for those who come after us.
