Today we’d like to introduce you to Takia Brown.
Hi Takia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started to learn how to cook at nine years old. As the oldest of three girls, nurturing came naturally to me, and cooking became one of the ways I expressed care for others. My Aunt Cynthia, also known as “Cookie” Brown, who helped raise me, was the first person to teach me how to treat people. She taught me that the best thing you can be in life is a decent human being. She was taken from us when I was nine years old. From a young age, I knew I wanted to cook for a living, and I often baked cakes for family gatherings, finding fulfillment in the joy my food brought to others.
In 2019, I officially started my business and named it iHeart Cookie’s Cakes in honor of my aunt. I wanted to change the trajectory of her legacy by ensuring she is remembered for the love and care she poured into others. Everything she did came from the heart, and that same intention is how I run my business today. Every customer receives the same level of respect and care, no matter how much they spend.
I have always been the person who made sure everyone else was taken care of. At age 37, I am just now realizing that in order to be the best mother, daughter, friend, and person I can be, I have to first be great to myself. My business became something I did for me, and it brings me genuine joy. Every order reminds me that someone believes in me enough to trust me with something meaningful.
I just relaunched, and I am so excited for the future of iHeart Cookie’s Cakes and what this next chapter holds.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road, but I am truly thankful for the journey. Being a mother, working a 9 to 5, going back to school to earn my degree, running a business, and staying active in my church has been challenging and at times overwhelming. Like many entrepreneurs, I have had to navigate self doubt, balance family responsibilities, and learn how to pour into myself while still showing up for others. Building a business while healing and growing personally has not always been easy, especially when I was used to putting everyone else first.
I am still learning, and those challenges continue to teach me resilience, patience, and the importance of trusting my journey. There have been moments when I questioned myself and my abilities, but keeping my end goal of running my business full time in mind helps me push through the hard days. Each obstacle has helped shape the confidence and clarity I am continuing to grow into.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the owner and baker behind iHeart Cookie’s Cakes. I specialize in luxury custom cakes and desserts made with intention, care, and heart. I am known for creating desserts that not only taste good but feel personal. Every order I take is treated as meaningful, whether it is for a large celebration or something small and intimate.
What I am most proud of is the trust my customers place in me. People choose me for important moments in their lives, and I never take that lightly. I am intentional about providing the same level of respect, quality, and care to every customer, no matter the size of the order. That consistency is something I value deeply as a business owner.
What sets me apart is the heart behind my work. My business is rooted in values, not just products. I bring compassion, patience, and authenticity into everything I create. Baking is not just my skill, it is an extension of who I am, and I take pride in growing as a professional while staying true to myself and the principles that guide how I serve others.
