Daily Inspiration: Meet Shirley Gutierrez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shirley Gutierrez. Them and their team share their story with us below:

SHIRLANKA was created in 2018 by Shirley Gutierrez, a Colombian-born fashionista and former architect. Everything started with the wish to being able to have a large closet, where our Clients could get outfits with a significant design contribution, and which were true differentiators to give them unique pieces.

We have been able to remain current due to our authenticity, the joint work with our influencers Claudia Vergara, Adriana Paniagua, and Lina Polania; and due to the styling that we provide with our concept. This styling helps each Client find what she needs faster.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The process of creating the concept was an easy stage and a lot of fun. When we were already on the market, getting to know us was more complex. And creating a niche on social media also required lots of creative work and trial and error to achieve success.

On a different note, understanding and serving the online market has been a challenge. It was like having another boutique that needed to be managed in a completely different way than the physical one.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I curate designer’s women apparel. I scout emerging designers who have creative materials and concepts and mix their pieces to create a personalized style for every woman. My motto is women must have their own DNA. It is independent of seasons or fashion trends.

My specialty is creating unique outfits for the DNA of each of my clients. They know us for being a concept with garments of high quality in design and materials. Our price range is wide (low to mid-high prices) to allow any woman to get an outfit that fits her DNA.

We distinguish ourselves because our outfits are timeless. We dress our clients with pieces that reach their closets to remain and be inherited. Thus we contribute to the sustainability of garments.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
After staying for three years at Wynwood, COVID helped us take the step that we knew we would have to take one day given market trends. So now we are 100% online with a showroom in Edgewater.

Pricing:

  • One of our guidelines when we created SHIRLANKA was to have a wide rage of prices, so in our concept you can find garments from $35 to $1,200.
