Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Brown
Hi Shannon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a family that all owned their own businesses. From a little girl sweeping my grandma’s beauty shop floors and answering the phones to then working with my uncle in his glass business through High School, played a huge role in my life and created a great foundation on how to manage a business. About 10 years ago, I was laid off from NASA after the space shuttle program retired. I wanted to change my career into something I would be passionate about. I decided to move to South Florida and I attended the Art Institute of Design in Fort Lauderdale. I graduated with a degree in Fashion Design. Three years ago, I married the love of my life. That process made me fall in love with the wedding industry. From working with vendors, a florist and a wedding coordinator, the whole process was amazing to me. To walk into my own wedding and see a vision come to life, left a lastly impression on me. When I started Fiore D’Amore, I was proud that my degree in fashion design was very similar to being a florist. The use of color, texture, design, differentiating lines and shapes and overall design appearance was key to my success in this business. We started as a retail florist and quickly fell in love with high end silks, including flower walls and trees. This then led us into the wedding and event industry, which we are so proud and happy to be in. We are not a company that takes profit over quality. Building relationships is important for me and my business name. I also think from having 18 years in the administration field and my fashion design degree has brought me to this amazing space of wedding and event design. I couldn’t be happier to be here in this industry in South Florida.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am “Miss Organized”. Ha! I have spreadsheets and lists to make sure we have everything together before leaving our shop. But there will always be things that pop up. We recently did an engagement on the beach for someone high profile. The setup was 3 hours away in New Smyrna Beach. Because he is high profile, he picked a more secluded beach. I researched the location online and always like to show up early if I’ve never setup at that location. Thank goodness we did. The beach access required a 30-minute walk on a board walk. You can imagine with 8 heavy bins and a large neon, that was a large task. We made 3 trips back and forth for our supplies and finished on time before sunset. The proposal turned out stunning. We had to carry everything back down the same boardwalk and it was completely pitch black. The whole family and couple were so amazing and helped us carry everything back to our van. You have to adjust as a business for anything that may come up. Keeping calm and strategizing is something we take in great stride.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We specialize in wedding and event floral design. We are known for combining fresh flowers with high end silks. We mostly do all fresh florals for bouquets, centerpieces and sweetheart tables. We then combine high end silks from cherry blossom trees, floral runners, wisteria ceiling installations and arches. The combination of the two make for a stunning design and keeping within the client’s budget.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We really have grown our business through building relationships with everyone we meet from couples, vendors and venues. We value each and every relationship we build. We are also on all social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and a preferred vendor through South Florida Brides.
