Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca.
Hi Rebecca, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We’re CLUTCH Comedy — a Miami-based improv trio made up of Rebecca Hernandez-Diaz, KC Korge, and Michelle Castro. CLUTCH started pretty organically — we met through the comedy community in Miami, FL at Just The Funny, where we each spent years training, teaching classes, and performing in and directing improv comedy shows. Over time, we kept finding ourselves in scenes together and realized there was a unique rhythm and trust between us onstage that felt worth building into something of its own.
We officially formed CLUTCH in 2022 with the goal of creating improv that felt bold, character-heavy, unpredictable, and deeply connected to the audience. One of the things that quickly became part of our identity was using audience members’ bags and personal items as inspiration for scenes. It gave every show a different energy and turned even the smallest everyday objects into jumping-off points for big characters and ridiculous stories.
Since forming, we’ve performed at comedy festivals and venues around the country while continuing to build a strong home base in Miami. We’ve been lucky to grow alongside the local comedy scene and collaborate with so many talented performers, producers, and artists. Along the way, we’ve also been recognized by local outlets like Miami New Times as a comedy act to watch, which was really encouraging for us as an independent group. Outside of performing, we all continue to teach and mentor other comedians, which has also shaped the way we collaborate as a group.
A huge part of our journey has been creating the kind of comedy space we would’ve wanted when we first started — one that feels welcoming, creative, and genuinely fun. At the end of the day, CLUTCH is really about three friends trusting each other enough to take big swings onstage and inviting the audience along for the ride.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the challenges we’ve faced as an improv troupe is finding affordable and consistent spaces to perform. While Miami has an amazing arts and entertainment culture, it doesn’t yet have a large thriving improv scene, so there are fewer dedicated venues for longform improv and experimental comedy. Finding spaces that are supportive of comedy and financially realistic for independent performers can definitely be a challenge. We’re proud that we have made it a priority to always compensate our guest performers in our shows – which is extremely rare for most improv comedy shows.
That said, we’ve been really fortunate along the way. We had an amazing opportunity to perform at Gramps in Wynwood for about a year as a residency before they closed in January 2026, and we also regularly perform at Just The Funny Theater in Coral Gables. We’d love to continue expanding and performing throughout more of Miami. No matter the obstacles, we’ve always found creative ways to make it happen (whether in a bar, art gallery, or someone’s backyard), and that’s honestly very in the spirit of improv itself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Clutch Comedy is a Miami-based longform improv trio made up of KC, Mich, and Rebecca, known for creating character-driven, fast-paced performances inspired by audience interaction and everyday human behavior. At the start of each set, audience members offer purses, bags, or totes, from which the performers pull random objects that inspire the show. Through improvised source scenes, each item is explored and justified, helping establish characters, relationships, and details that become the foundation for an entirely original longform narrative.
Using theatrical edits, emotional storytelling, and playful humor, CLUTCH builds fully improvised worlds centered around vivid personalities, dynamic female relationships, and the funny realities of human connection. Performances can range anywhere from 20 to 50 minutes and often blend quick wit, grounded emotion, and unexpected twists.
Beyond performing, CLUTCH is passionate about growing Miami’s improv community through workshops, coaching, and collaborative performances. Their work focuses on making improv feel accessible, engaging, and deeply connected to the audience — because with CLUTCH, even the baggage becomes part of the fun.
How do you define success?
We define success as getting to do more of what we already love doing: teaching workshops, producing comedy shows for the Miami community, and traveling to perform at venues and festivals around the country. This summer, we’re heading to New York and Tampa for comedy festivals, and we’d love to continue expanding those opportunities and bringing Clutch to new audiences. Maybe one day we’ll even create our own comedy festival here in Miami. We’d also love to focus more on writing sketches based on our improvised characters and collaborating with other artists here in Miami so the comedy community keeps growing.
Another shiny medal for us would be to build an ongoing partnership with a brand where we can provide entertainment while reaching a wider audience — ideally something fun and unexpected, like halftime entertainment for WNBA games. Honestly, our dream job might just be going through audience members’ purses at sporting events.
