Daily Inspiration: Meet Melanie Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Rose.

Hi Melanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It’s been quite the road with music. I’ve been writing, and singing since I could form words. Then, as soon as I could write, I started creating my own songs. I’d write so much, that my journals became their own little song books. I always envisioned myself as an artist, and had my heart set on it for many years growing up. Then, as it does for so many life happened in its way for me, and I took sort of a different path for a bit. I had a start in the industry when I was about 18 years old, and the experience was a let down. I realized that there were many people who wanted to take advantage for their own gain, and at the time I was so young trying to figure it out on my own. That experience made me question this path, and the industry deeply. It was extremely tough, but I decided to put music down. It never left my mind though. Then further down the line, a few years later I connected with the right people who actually valued me as an artist, and helped me start making music again. Something I never thought I’d have the real chance to do. It just goes to show you that sometimes when something is meant for you, it always has a way of finding it’s way back to you again. Especially when you least expect it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think some of the most challenging things I’ve had to overcome is actually believing in myself as corny as it sounds, and overcoming self doubt. There’s so many people who’ll project their own fears, and insecurities onto you by saying you can’t or by making you feel like being an artist isn’t valuable. BUT many of these people end up miserable, and empty because they don’t really have anything that lights a fire in them, and they just settled. Maybe they did once, but someone told them to let it go, and they listened. All I’m saying is if you have something that truly lights you up in this world, that it’s such a special thing you shouldn’t give up, and the right people for you would want you to keep that, and just because someone makes you feel as if your passions aren’t valuable doesn’t mean it’s true. Connecting with people who are on the same or similar paths made me realize that I didn’t need to doubt myself or my own path. I just needed to surround myself with more supportive people, and it’s been extremely healing for me.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Artistically, one of the projects I’ve been the most proud to be a part of is the “Farewell My Love” short film by Sean Patrick where I was able to both act in the film, and was featured on a song from the film’s soundtrack called “Searching”. Following this, I recorded, and released my debut single, “Take Me Higher”, which I’m beyond proud of because it’s the first original song I’ve finally been able to share, and the start of my music journey as an artist. Outside of music, I still work to utilize my creativity as much as I can as a social media content manager. I design, and plan campaigns for beauty products. It’s been a bit of a road to find myself professionally as well because I definitely had the experience of it not being valued so much along the way. I’d say something I’m also proud of is being able to carve a new path for myself in this world, and make it work from a place that’s more authentic to who I really am, while being able to surround myself with more supportive people.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Well, it was definitely true when they said: If you risk nothing you gain nothing. Everything I’ve been able to create in my life now that I’m proud of all started with a risk. From music to career, I had to take leaps of faith to make any sort of progress. Professionally, I pivoted from something that had nothing to do with creating social media content, and decided to learn new skills, invest in myself, and kept going. As an artist, I still struggled with self doubt, and wondered if anyone would even find value in my music, but still moved forward. I’m so glad that I did because now I’m at a place that feels more in alignment with who I really am. I’d say that if you want anything, risks are an essential part of the path. Even if it doesn’t work out, you’ll still have learned something valuable that lets you know what to shift to get closer to your goals, and either way you’ll be much more closer than you were before.
