Daily Inspiration: Meet Megan Foster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Foster

Hi Megan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started about 6 years ago doing photography professionally. Although, I have always enjoyed photography – it wasn’t until I found some models through Facebook that I actually found my passion in portrait photography. I have since traveled all over the US, UK, and Europe for photography. I have worked with a wide range of professionals and non-professionals alike such as models, singers, actresses, and more. Today, I am focused on trying to be more creative with my work and focus more on studio shots and runway events as this is not something that I have had much opportunity for in the last 6 years.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been smooth, but slow. Finding models to work with is a lot harder than it sounds and even when you do find someone who is ready to work with you, then it’s about finding the time in everyone’s schedule to work. Sometimes I will find a model and we are shooting together the next week and other times I find someone and we don’t shoot together for about 3-4 months. Additionally, I had to take a break when I moved to London for two years just because I felt like I was starting over from scratch. Not only was I focused on studying at the time, I also just didn’t know anyone in the industry and I didn’t feel like I had the energy to start from the very beginning like I did in California. So that was a bit of a struggle along the way, but once I got back to the states I was really able to take off again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do portrait and event photography.

I specialize in outdoor/street model photography, but also branch out to studio and runways. For event photography, I mostly do family events and graduations.

I am most proud of the networking that I have done throughout the years and also getting the huge opportunity to shoot Miami Swim Week this past May.

Something that sets me apart from others is that I do not have one style of editing or photography. A lot of photographers will have a set style in the way they take photos, but I like to be creative and switch it up. That gives me the ability to take my photography anywhere and not stay stagnant in my work. Additionally, photography is typically a male dominated industry, so being a woman sets me apart from others. There have been many times where I get to a set and I am the only female photographer there.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I want to give credit to Stephanie Heiner (model/actress), who was the very first model I ever worked with. It was both our first time modeling/photographing and now we have both watched each other grow in our respective industries over the last six years. I am very proud of her and her career and I am happy that we both got our start together.

I also want to give a shoutout to my sister, Ashley Foster (designer/model), who was able to help me get to Miami Swim Week because of her incredible swimwear company, Asola Swim. If it wasn’t for her having the courage to start her company and promote herself as hard as she has, then I wouldn’t have been able to make it to Miami.
