Today, we’d like to introduce you to Marina Kononenko.
Hi Marina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My story is very magical, to be honest: I started from an exchange student program in 2012 selling hot dogs in a shopping mall to a beauty salon owner and educator years after.
I did try other pathways and even got a degree in the medical field. Too many stories for 1 page.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My road hasn’t been smooth at all, but self-belief always pushes forward. From my main struggles, I can definitely recall the language barrier in the first couple of years, different culture (I was born & raised in Russia), choice of future career, multiple relocations, etc.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My professional journey is linked to the beauty industry. I love to come up with a mysterious answer to the most popular question around people nowadays: “What do you do for a living?”. My answer is “I touch up God’s work”. That sounds powerful & inspiring.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite memories from childhood are connected with family time when we spent main holidays and gatherings all together with my parents & relatives.
