Today we’d like to introduce you to Luyanda Madonia.
Hi Luyanda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Luyanda was born in Pennsylvania, USA, to South African parents. While growing up in South Africa, she has always had an interest in fashion, beauty, and entertainment. Being exposed to her parents’ world-renowned record label, Native Rhythms Productions, at an early age. She attended The National School of the Arts, majoring in Dance Studies, earning choreography awards and distinctions in numerous dance styles and academic subjects.
Upon graduating, she made a very brave plunge to move to Los Angeles to study Fashion Marketing at The Art Institute of California – Hollywood. After graduating Summa cum laude from College, Luyanda worked in the music industry under Tricky Stewart’s label Red Zone Ent, with celebs such as Frank Ocean, Ciara, Justin Tranter, and more. Realising her passion for the fashion industry, she left the music biz and became a specialist in digital fashion marketing for numerous fashion brands, spanning over a 10-year career.

From her influence, she has been invited to Fashion Weeks around the globe, Influencer events, and industry launches.
Through her platform, she shares the tools and inspiration to help her audience embrace their uniqueness and live with intention, confidence, and authenticity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. My journey has been filled with pivots — both in my career and in my sense of purpose. As someone who moves between countries, I am constantly starting over, rebuilding my audience and earning their trust from the ground up. That alone is no small feat.
I am also someone who is always evolving. My interests grow and shift as I do, and finding the right way to bring my audience along on that journey has been its own learning curve. Knowing what to share, and when, is something I am always refining.
And then there is the reality of being a Black African creator in this space. The opportunities do not always come as freely or as easily as they do for others, and that disparity can feel incredibly defeating at times. But in those moments, I come back to my purpose — which has always been to inspire my audience to embrace who they truly are and live as their most authentic selves. That reminder is what keeps me going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I shared my bio in the previous questions in terms of what I do.
What sets me apart is that there is no one quite like me in this space. I bring a bold, maximalist energy to everything I do, from the way I dress to the way I live and the way I show up for my audience. I do not do subtle. I do not do small.
Layer that with a life lived across multiple countries and cultures, and you get a perspective that is expansive, textured, and anything but ordinary.
And through all of it, I am unapologetically real. No filters, no performance, just a Black African woman living loudly, authentically, and on her own terms. That is my edge.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Los Angeles has a magic that is hard to deny — the golden weather, the subcultures, and an energy that makes you feel like anything is possible.
But the city has a shadow side I cannot ignore. The homeless crisis truly breaks my heart. It is a stark, painful reminder of just how wide the gap between the haves and have-nots has become. And then there is the culture of individualism, people moving alongside each other without truly seeing one another. I grew up with the African philosophy of Ubuntu, “I am because we are,” the belief that our humanity is bound together. Los Angeles has so much beauty and abundance. Imagine what it could be with a little more of that spirit.
