Daily Inspiration: Meet Lisa Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Lee.

Hi Lisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I was born a fifth-generation artist dating back to mural painters in northern Italy. It began with Bernardo Botto from Biella and Oreste Vaccai from Livorno. Two Italians who didn’t even know each other but I am sure if they did, they would be drinking wine and painting together. I like to have this romantic notion that my forefathers were painting murals in churches like Michelangelo and DaVinci.

Being a part of this artistic tribe is very similar to being a family of trapeze artists or singers. Kind of like the flying Wallendas. It’s a family thing except we don’t have to worry about falling off a high wire. Art is in our DNA so to speak. How can we be anything else? It’s practically impossible. It is not an easy road by any means and quite challenging, to say the least. Nonetheless, it’s the road of my choice. Maybe, the road was paved before me but, at the same time, I am paving my own new path.

At the end of the day, only I can hold the paintbrush and put the training in to hone my skills. This requires many hours, years, and lots of training. I will always be a work in progress striving to get to the next level. There is an infinite amount to learn to get to one’s highest self.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There will always be obstacles in life. It is up to us how we choose to get around each one. My greatest challenge was the loss of my husband and raising my children without him. To say it side-swiped me is putting it mildly. My train was more than derailed, and it took a long time to get back on track.

At a certain point as my children got older, I chose to put my art career back on track. This came with strong focus, discipline, perseverance, and passion. Always be brave and believe in yourself. Know anything is possible with determination. “Bravery is the tool with which we manage the wilderness. And if someone doubts you, remind them you are the wilderness.” -Brene Brown

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am moved by the beauty of humanity and nature around me. My primary focus is narrative portraits and wildlife art. My style is representational, and my mediums are oil, graphite, and charcoal. My Intent is to engage my viewer with a sensitive perspective on a deeper level of compassion for all life.

I like it to be a friendly reminder of the natural world that walks, runs, and flies around us. We live in a world where technology moves at light speed. Time stops for no man, yet art can stop time. I love that art can do that. My aim is to show you what I see through my eyes and move you in some thought-provoking way that connects us all together.
