Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Colabella.
Hi Katherine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been fascinated by beauty and what can be done to enhance one’s beauty. I’ve also always been somewhat of a caretaker, wanting to help people feel better about themselves. I went back and forth to nursing and cosmetology school a few times until I realized I was too soft to be a nurse! I would most likely cry every day having to see people hurt. I decided to do hair because I get to help people feel better without the sad stuff!
I worked in a salon for about 4 years after I finished school. I had an amazing mentor who I assisted for the first 6 months. He taught me so much and I eventually got the overflow from his clientele when I graduated from assistant to stylist. I am very blessed. I continued to learn as I was active with my work and created special relationships with many women who are still my lovely clients today!
After 4 years at the salon, I ventured off on my own & opened up my own business at my studio where I am currently. I have been here for almost 5 years now! I love what I do so much and the learning and growing never end! I love being in my studio because the sky is the limit! I am beyond grateful to be able to do what I love so much almost every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most things in life don’t always go smoothly. Good things are always worth the obstacles! There have been many bumps in the road but nothing I wasn’t able to triumph over! Everything I’ve been through that may have seemed negative when it happened was certainly for the greater good and has taught me so much.
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the challenges and I still have so far to go. So long as we stay in the light and keep pushing forward everything will go as planned.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have always loved elegant, luxurious, glamorous hair. I truly believe that our hair is our crown and we need to wear it proudly. I dreamed of creating beautiful hair when I was just a student. I specialize in blondes. I love all colors but I do find blonde to be the most captivating.
There are so many different kinds of blonde so I can spread my wings and let the creativity in me fly while working. I also do a lot of extensions as I find long hair to be so lovely.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
Change is constant as is growth. I see nothing but great things for my industry in the future!
