Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Clavijo.
Hi Johnny, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Icon Group is a Florida Engineering and Construction Management Company headquartered in Dade County.
The company was registered almost 20 years ago; however, it started providing services in 2007-2008. This year will be our 15th anniversary. The business started very small only two people the founder Mr. Clavijo and an assistant, still, the company vision was clear from the beginning.
To be leaders in providing engineering and construction services. We will have increased our market share and expanded into additional growth areas. We will establish our company as a benchmark for integrity, building excellence, product innovation, and technological advancement.
Today, we have expanded our capabilities into different market sectors. We have grown our relations and our capacity to provide a quality service.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Since the beginning, we had many challenges. We started operating in 2007-2008 which was a difficult year. The construction industry almost came to a halt. Very difficult years. We had to survive during the recession and try to diversify the business to maintain the doors open.
By 2020 the pandemic came, and we were almost forced to shut down our projects. There was too much fear within the organization to continue working in such conditions. Many adjustments took place for us to stay open.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I graduated in 1998 from FIU, and since then I worked for different Engineering Firms in Atlanta Georgia, and Miami Florida. I was always wanting to be a team player, offering my help to everyone with their projects. My last job in Florida had to deal with investigating Design and Construction failures.
What sets me apart from a lot of people in the industry is the capacity to understand all the aspects of the business from Engineering Design to the actual process of building a project.
What makes you happy?
What makes us happy is to earn the respect of our clients. For the company to be able to meet its expectations. To provide excellence to the things we do every day no matter how small or complex those things are.
