Today we’d like to introduce you to Jewel Lord.
Hi Jewel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m an artist, and a homeschool stay at home of 3 boys. I came from a small town with no money, job, car, friends. I was “off the grid” since childhood with no legal documents and spent 8 years working towards obtaining a birth certificate, social security ect all while raising my first son and battling depression. After that came together, my life seemed really start! I got my first cars, got a license, My sons dad and I got married, we bought a house and had two more boys! My art has been an outlet to express myself through all my ups and downs and has helped me get where I am today!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing about the road has been “smooth”. I use to think life was just out to get me! But quickly realized that our lives are the leftover pieces of the people who “raised us”, to undo their mess with grace to ourselves. And often life is just what we make of it! I walked along side my family as one of my brothers died from cancer, I battled depression and eating disorders as a result of the sexual abuse I grew up with. I don’t consider myself strong, but I have learned to lean on healthy support that lifts me up so I can be the woman and mother I am!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like to dabble in different media areas like collages, creatively directing photoshoots, freelance modeling, creating recipes at home ect.
But I’m most known for my ink/watercolor pieces that highlight women and nature with embracing contrasted colors.
As a stay at home mom in the creative field I don’t get a spectacular amount of time to engage in my art. It looks different every season, whether it’s including the boys in the crafts, adding to a painting during nap times, or scheduling a specific time away from the kids to complete a watercolor piece!
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I love the Lord! I’m definitely not perfect, and I struggle to find wholesome community. Which is why I do my utmost to create my community at home and encourage my children to find the Lords peace anywhere they are!
