Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Thayer.
Hi Jennifer, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my internet career streaming on the platform Twitch.tv back in 2015. I was on there for a couple of years, and then I switched platforms a couple of times. While all this was happening, I was also moving all over the country. I was raised in Northern Indiana. I first moved to Los Angeles, then back to Indiana, I almost moved to Phoenix Arizona, but finally found my current home down in Miami, Florida. In March of 2020, I joined the platform TikTok out of pure curiosity. I started making videos and quickly gained traction. I have gained 1.8 million followers and 16.3 million likes in a little under two years. I am also currently co-owner of a video game development studio, so while I am not making content, I am managing that company.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No success is ever easy. While living in Los Angeles, I became homeless and was either sleeping in my car or bouncing from hotel to hotel. I struggled to find where I truly fit in in the online world, but in all honesty, you truly have to make your own path and find people to form a community. There are still struggles I face every day from videos taking hours to post to being shadowbanned. I feel like with the type of platform TikTok is there will always be daily struggles on there, especially for those who aren’t verified.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a TikTok creator Instagram influencer, I run an only fans page, and I co-own a video game development company based out of Miami, FL. Doing all these things at once makes for a very busy and stressful schedule. I gained a lot of my followers from posting popular trends on TikTok. I am most proud of the video game development company because it’s very different from what most people would ever guess that I would be doing. I love to shock people with how diverse my interests are.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor is VERY hard in this industry. I actually never had a mentor at all. I am just now starting to network more with others because all other “collabs” in the past have mainly just been people trying to get something else. As for advice, I would say be mindful of who you are working with, and honestly, if you want to work with someone just try reaching out. The worst that can happen is no response or a no from them. Just make sure you always believe in yourself and know your worth. The biggest thing is being confident without being arrogant.
