Daily Inspiration: Meet Jeannie Gresseau

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannie Gresseau.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My fascination with makeup began in college. Youtube taught me how to apply makeup to myself. I devotedly followed black influencers like Jackie Aina and NeneTanae. As new palettes and beauty products were released, I purchased them. My friends and family appreciated how myself, so I did it for them on occasion for special occasions or parties. In November of 2020, I applied makeup to a close friend who was going through a difficult emotional time, and after I finished, her face lit up. With my nursing experience and a passion for making others feel better, makeup now allows me to do it in a new way. iDream of Beauty (inspired by I Dream of Jeannie) was born out of a desire to see women’s confidence and spirits soar as a result of makeup and the connections that can be built as a result of that process. Now, I apply makeup to everyday women in order to accentuate their natural beauty.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it’s been one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done in my life. Learning how to apply makeup to other individuals is one of the challenges I’ve faced. Any makeup artist will tell you that applying makeup on yourself versus someone else is a completely different experience; for example, the way you hold the brush is completely different. Another obstacle is to be patient with myself and to remember to give myself grace and recognize that this is a learning process and that each artist’s journey is unique. To all my artists, remember that you are an individual, and that is your superpower.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in enhancing natural beauty as a makeup artist. I am most proud of putting myself out there and being more extroverted. Dream of Beauty is a safe haven for women to let their hair down and be themselves. We can chat about anything as long as you’re my client, and there will be no judgment. You will leave feeling uplifted.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My suggestion for finding a mentor is to not be scared to seek for guidance and put yourself out there. Networking is essential for establishing a successful business and forming relevant industry relationships. For me, networking has proven to be beneficial. I took a few makeup classes with different artists when I chose to become a makeup artist and was able to form fantastic relationships. I intend to attend more classes to develop my craft and make more connections in the beauty business as I continue my career.
