Today we’d like to introduce you to Javier Muñoz.
Javier, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Javier Munoz, a stylist, makeup artist, and marketing professional. I am proudly Colombian and I started in the world of beauty 16 years ago, when I realized the ability that I had in my hands to positively impact the appearance of many women. In my beginnings, I worked for two beauty salons in my hometown in Cali, and simultaneously, I continued my studies in marketing and international business at the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente.
I am convinced that knowledge and good training are essential to obtain better opportunities, I have liked to undertake and generate new ideas every day. In 2014, my personal brand was a reality, based on all the needs perceived by my clients in my previous jobs, I opened a cozy place, with personalized and exclusive service.
The following years were very successful and with my clients I managed to create a great family, and generate bonds of trust and credibility, which led me to think and expand for more opportunities. In 2021, I felt the need to challenge myself even more and I decided to travel to Miami in search of new energy, and new opportunities and that’s how it was: I found them! Almost at the end of a trip that seemed like a vacation, they gave me a position in a prestigious salon in Brickell and I decided to stay, I had a big challenge: to be an employee again and have a boss, it did not seem easy but I decided to live it.
Soon my entrepreneurial spirit made me think about going for more, so after a year and a half, I decided to reshape my personal brand – Javier Munoz Beauty Lab – this time-based in Miami. In January of this year, I started this exciting process, taking up the ideas that initially led me to make a difference and opened my studio now located in the city of Coral Gables, in a welcoming and cozy space where the love for art, beauty, and exclusivity converge.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been an easy road, the world of beauty is quite wide, and every day you find new things, with a lot of competition in between and where being recognized is not easy and fast.
Along the same path, I have also lived the experience of migrating to another country, facing and understanding multiple cultures and languages that converge here. Undoubtedly, from one place to another, female tastes and trends change, and one must do the same. I believe that acquiring that knowledge will always be the best option to grow.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a specialist in hair color techniques, the strongest being: balayage. I like to create a style for each of my clients, according to their tastes and physical features. My goal is to always preserve the integrity and health of their hair despite having coloring processes, which translates into long work days with a single client.
I love dedicating the best time with them, listening to them, and together building their best version. Therefore, my job is not only to give them a nice color, but I also do make up for their best moments and supply other needs such as hair extensions, hairstyles, and wedding arrangements, among others.
When you are an artist, many skills come to light and nothing better than using them for the benefit of others makes me happy!
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I firmly believe that when we move from our comfort zone is when we have the best chance of getting closer to success. I have always been carried away by the energy of change and the search for new opportunities, assuming the risks that this entails and the processes of adaptation to scenarios that are currently uncertain.
When you have an entrepreneurial spirit, it is very common to face risks and today I can say that I am the most faithful example of it. Being here living this opportunity is the result of many risks assumed, leaving stability in your country, starting a life as an immigrant, and looking for a place to grow as an artist under your personal brand is a challenge, and sure, risks and fears are many, but life always puts the best instruments in your path, and I always say that my best tool is determination and discipline.
