Daily Inspiration: Meet Hugo Mijares

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hugo Mijares.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been passionate for architecture, design and motorbikes since my boyhood, when my elder cousin rode a bike, sometimes me on the pillion. And also, since I can remember, I was drawing a lot. Consequently, I went to university and studied Architecture, Applied Arts and design, my Architecture thesis was a full-scale Urban Intervention and my thesis for Applied Arts was a full-scale motorbike. looking back, I had completely underestimated the amount of work…..

Nowadays, my studio dwells between Hospitality, Commercial and high-end houses, furniture design and motorcycle concepts.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think I’ve learned how to work quickly, how to prepare different options, and how not only work with one idea. I tried to learn that there is no style that you should follow, you can pick from different parts. I learned to be curious and explore different aspects of culture. after working with them, I decided to break from what I learned in terms of style and create from what is personal. I’m never really inspired by any magazines or movies anymore — sorry to say that! I try to constitute creation from myself and design from what is coming from deep inside of me. Lessons I’ve learned by observing life and jumping obstacles along the way…

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am doing Architecture, Design and lately motorbike tailoring, which is a new branch of my studio that I launched one year ago and only on Instagram. I consider myself a tailor, so I’m usually doing bespoke, made to measure apartments, houses and bikes. In the same way that you would design an apartment, you also have the cabin of a motorbike. I’m more interested in this habitat, an environment that is very sensual and glamorous…especially because you never look at it when you drive, you can’t pay attention to the detail. You just feel it, and this is very important to me. I develop very plush and refined finishes. Everything is bespoke — and I do it based on the personality of the client.

What’s next?
We are currently expanding our portfolio and in conversations with a Fashion Design House to take over their Showrooms Design worldwide. Also expanding into mobility and user-friendly spaces. In terms of Technology, we are working in our first 3d printed house and embracing digital processes within the studio environment. The future looks bright and limitless.
