Daily Inspiration: Meet Heidi Schuler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Schuler.

Hi Heidi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey started as a critical care nurse in 1998. I later became a mother to three wonderful boys and even though I underwent multiple challenges with my kids health to include multiple open-heart surgeries, I decided to continue my education and enroll in the Nurse Practitioner program where I obtained my Master’s Degree and later my Doctorate in Nursing Practice. My journey was a rough one but I endured this program and did a specialty in General Surgery.

Eleven years ago, I became a board-certified nurse practitioner and started working at the hospital since. My passion for surgery led me to many other journeys and the best one yet, including starting my own practice in aesthetics in 2013. I then became the founder, owner and clinical director of Wellness and Beauty Medical Spa. After undergoing extensive training and multiple certifications in aesthetics, my passion for facial rejuvenation quickly grew as did my practice. I had an eye and passion for art and that transformed into subtle and beautiful facial rejuvenations.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Being a nurse practitioner can sometimes be difficult to try to find a collaborating physician to work with. I received multiple job offers at many established practices, but my goal was to establish my own private practice. There have been many struggles along the road to include financial, location and mostly the fear of not “making it”. My strength, faith and determination made me continue to progress. Quickly I developed a very loyal clientele and my referrals grew by the day. Without advertising or much of a business mind, I kept growing my practice, all from a patient referral. I still continue to practice as a full-time General Surgery Nurse Practitioner in the hospital and in addition, I also continue my busy aesthetic practice.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Board Certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in General Surgery and Cosmetic dermatology with over 20 years of experience in the field of medicine over seven years of experience in antiaging aesthetics. I bring a results-oriented approach to my practice backed by strong grounding science, my aesthetic artistry and my exceptionally compassionate and personalized care I provide for every one of my patients. I specialize in the non-surgical rejuvenation and beautification of every patient. Each one of my patients is an individual, requiring specific and highly targeted and specialized treatment. There aren’t two patients that are the same. Each one of us has different expressions, movements and needs, therefore creating a highly individualized plan for each patient using injection treatments to restore youth, symmetry and balance to the face. I provide services to include Botulinum toxin (Botox or Dysport), facial reshaping with dermal fillers, jaw reduction, Kybella injections which are used to destroy fat cells in target areas, mainly chin and jaw line, chemical peels, micro-needling, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections and hair restoration.

My facial rejuvenation process begins with a thorough assessment of not just your face but also your expressions and proportions. I pay close attention to the patient’s areas of concern and propose a plan to restore their facial symmetry and balance. It is my opinion that the best facial filler is the one that goes unnoticed. I am known for my very conservative and subtle approach, yet youth is restored one step at a time. It is about balance, enhancing each individual’s natural beauty, restoring youth or preserving it and facial harmony and symmetry. It is not about changing the way you look or who you are but about restoring your beauty and rejuvenation potential. What sets me apart is that I work in collaboration with my patients to set realistic goals using safe procedures and enhance natural beauty and graceful aging without being overdone.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
My most important lesson learned has been to maintain a balance between my personal life and children and work. In my practice, my biggest lesson learned has been to continue to respect facial anatomy and safe practice. I have also learned the importance of listening to your patient’s goals and giving them realistic expectations and targets on how to achieve this. Communication is the key to success in medicine.
