Daily Inspiration: Meet Ethan Thornton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Thornton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Several years ago, I dropped out of college to pursue my photography dreams. With very little knowledge and work. I had my mind set on doing what made me happy. As a Christian, I felt it was my calling as well. I then put my faith in God, trusted my gut, and put one foot in front of the other. Since that day my relationship with God grew as well as my photography. He opened up opportunities that I never imagined.

From working with big influencers such as Addison Rae, Gabi Butler, Claire Stone, Carrington Durham, and many more. My talent grew tremendously. As time passed; continuously working on my work, brands reached out such as “bikiniblock”, Magazines wanting to feature me “bloomxomagazine”, and shooting the cover for ‘insidecheerleading”. Whatever you want in life you have to take that risk and go at it full speed. The majority of people are scared to take the risk because they’re scared of failing. Failing brings lessons to be learned. Don’t be scared of not knowing, you don’t know what’s on the other side.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The first month of starting photography wasn’t easy. Hours of learning the camera and hours learning editing softwares. But with time I got much better but couldn’t get collaborations or paid clients. One night I was frustrated with my business and started questioning if this is really what I wanted to do. I prayed that night desperately to God asking, “if you are real, show me in my photography.” Weeks later huge collaborations and brand deals started heading my way. Since that day my Faith and trust grew in my relationship with him, and I knew this is what he wanted me to do. Still today he opens up doors that still shocks me and that’s why I will always give him credit for my journey. Through this journey, there’s always hard times. huge competition, getting brand deals, clients, and a name for yourself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Photographer to models, travel, and influencers. I don’t specialize in a “style”. I’ve learned over the years you have to adapt and stay up to date with trends to give the client what they want or myself on a specific project. I am mostly known for shooting Swimsuit. 70% of influencers that reach out to me want to shoot swimsuit and I have done a couple projects with a swimsuit brand in the past.

I am most proud of the growth I see in my work. I spend countless hours behind the scenes making the edit look as best as possible. 85% of the collaborations are pleased with my work. Even with some collaborations we end up working again down the road.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
If I learned anything from the covid crisis is that doing the opposite of what others are doing is more beneficial to you. Never settle and take the path you want.
