Today we’d like to introduce you to Deya Perez.
Hi Deya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been passionate about makeup for as long as I can remember. When I was 13, I would create looks at home and take pictures of my “masterpiece” with a disposable camera. My grandmother would reveal the photos and hang them all over the house… embarrassing. I started working on my friend’s makeup when I was in high school, eventually leading to my friends coming to me for advice on how to apply makeup on themselves. At some point, my friends would tell me to do it for a living but I always saw this as an unobtainable possibility mainly because of self-doubt. Let’s fast forward to a few years ahead, a lot actually… I am now 31.
I started with very little products and mainly pharmacy brands. I started self-promoting my business at 27! Taking friends as clients and showing my work on Instagram.
When Covid hit, we were all very affected, health and monetary situations got scary!
It was then when I told myself I wanted more. And due to the amount of time spent home, I decided to build a small beauty room in my house. Little by little worked on my craft, stayed consistent, and here I am. Loving what I do and thriving more than ever.
I’ve had the pleasure to work with such talented individuals and learn from some of the best in the makeup and hair game.
It’s such a difference working towards your dreams and watching them come to life. When you love what you do, you really won’t ever work a day in your life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been a few struggles but to be honest, it hasn’t been the worst. Everything has unfolded positively and gracefully for me.
Investing in my business was scary. Having to pull from my savings in order to build a luxury kit for all my clients. But so worth it. My clients have been nothing but amazing and loving.
I have no complaints.
When you plant love in what you do, it shows.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in makeup. Whether bridal or glam, I can offer it.
I am also learning and getting comfortable with hair styling.
I am mainly proud of how far I’ve come! This used to be a just a dream, a thought. And now, I am slowly growing humbly and wholeheartedly.
I am no different than anyone else. But I can say this, I love what I do. I love to make women feel and look their very best! It’s rewarding to me. It literally drives me. And I believe that shows… people can trust me and I am always going to be nice, professional and passionate!
How do you think about happiness?
Happiness comes from within. Passion makes me happy.
Making my clients happy makes me happiest. It’s so pleasant for me to know that my work, my talent put a smile on someone’s face.
