Today we’d like to introduce you to Demian Gordon.
Hi Demian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My father, Christopher Gordon is a photographer in North Carolina and my big brother Mike Higgins is a photographer in New York. I would say the love of the art came from them. They both have their own styles and passions. Their tutelage furthered the creation of my own passion. They are both accomplished photographers I’ve take their knowledge and developed it into my love of the art. Ever since I was young, I loved taking pictures and it grow into my passion that developed into business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say it was a smooth road because any passion that is worth something to you has its obstacles. Everything from which camera is the best for me, what genre do I want to get into and how to get my work out to the people that share my passion and love my style of shooting. Everything is a challenge but I flipped it to be an opportunity to grow and develop. Better yourself, better your craft.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Me as a photographer, I like to keep an open mind to all types of photography genres and try a bit of it all. Food, newborn, family, sports, implied, etc. But what I am know for are my nature light portraits and boudoir photography. What I am most proud of is one of my first shoots was placed in a magazine that did well for myself and the model. So that pushed me harder to get published. I have since been published several more times.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For those starting out, just don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it. It’s not about what someone else likes it’s about what drives you. And that it is not about having the flashiest gear it is about how you use it.
