Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Silva.
Hi Daniel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I am a lifelong martial artist. I have been training, competing, and teaching in a variety of combat sports such as MMA, boxing, muay Thai, and jiu-jitsu for most of my life.
In 2013, I suffered a serious brain injury while training for a mixed martial arts fight. I went from being in the best physical shape of my life to being completely bedridden and mentally broken. Suicidal thoughts infiltrated my mind as my world crumbled and my health deteriorated. Alone in a small studio apartment with literally nothing left, going to sleep hungry; I turned inward to the breath as a last resort.
In isolation, I discovered the gift and true power of breathwork and meditation. It consumed and transformed me. My mind grew stronger as I rediscovered the warrior spirit that was hidden deep inside of me. Massively transformative psychedelic-like experiences began to occur through the breath without any drugs. This daily practice became the catalyst to rebuild me to a place that is far greater than anything I could have imagined before. I have continued to study and explore different breathwork modalities while going deeper into the science and biology of the breath.
My purpose now is to share what I have learned along my journey to empower every individual to access these different states of consciousness and unlock their full human potential. I teach weekly breathwork and meditation classes at Hanu Yoga Studio every Monday and Wednesday at 7:15 pm in addition to working with a variety of corporations, athletes, and private clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The techniques that I am now teaching were birthed out of one of my greatest traumas and from a time when my life had completely fallen apart. It took years to dig myself out of that place so none of it was smooth.
I started the first official weekly Breathwork and Meditation class in Miami Beach a year ago when most people believed that it would never work. Breathwork and meditation are still something that is not very well understood or practiced by the general public so we weren’t sure if they would work or if people would be interested. I started with a small group and it has continued to grow and expand into workshops, corporate customers, and retreats.
I believe that a decade from now, these practices will be mainstream and practiced by most people, but we are still in the early phases so there is a long way to go and there is a lot of work to be done.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I teach people how to use the breath as a tool to influence their nervous system, control the mind and access deeper states of consciousness. I work with C-suite professionals that are dealing with overwhelming stress, neurosurgeons that are carrying out critical life and death operations daily, and professional athletes competing at the highest levels of their sports.
I teach them all how to optimize their performance and access flow states to tap into their greatness under the most intense circumstances.
I recently launched the first privately guided cold plunge breathwork experience in Miami Beach at Hanu Yoga Studio. Using specific breathwork techniques, I am using the cold as a tool to teach people how to calm their nervous system under extreme forms of external stress.
Do you have any advice for those just starting?
Learn to calm the noise of the mind so that you can connect and hear your inner wisdom and intuition.
All of the answers are within. Listen and then take action. It can be scary not knowing what lies ahead and there will be many obstacles along the way but trust that the universe has placed you on the perfect path to become what you are meant to become.
