Daily Inspiration: Meet Chantel Galloway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chantel Galloway.

Hi Chantel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The passion for hair artistry began to take shape in my world very early on, I would say in middle school. It is when I began to do my hair myself. Relaxing my own hair & experimenting with different styles. By the 8th grade, I was experimenting with weaves.

By high school, I began doing some of my friend’s hair, Simple quick weave designs along with different weave colors. It was definitely an expression then and still is now. I don’t even think it had hit me how much I enjoyed it. Hair is such a huge factor in a woman’s life. Most times it can make or break your confidence.

Maybe about a year after graduating I came across a commercial for beauty schools of America & a light bulb went off. I told my mom about it and the very next day we went & signed up for the school & the day after that my journey to becoming the greatest hair artist in the world began!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were some struggles beginning with the schooling. Nothing major but about 3/4 of the way through I almost gave up on myself because I got tired of the commute to & from.

Needless to say, I didn’t quit. My mother wouldn’t allow it I had come this far! When I started in my first salon, I hadn’t taken my state board yet so I wasn’t licensed. That led me to become a salon assistant. That continued for 8 months, mainly because I was terrified of failing my tests.

Fear and doubt are so tricky because they can trick you into believing things that are nowhere near true. I took my exam & passed it on the very first try! I do appreciate the time that I was a salon assistant because it sure did teach me customer service.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I stepped out onto the salon floor now as a licensed hairstylist I was more than ready to take over the hair world! So young & fresh & full of life. It was truly my time to shine. The year was 2013 & I was already a trendsetter. I was doing balayages before balayages were balayages.

My clientele grew pretty quickly because of that. No one had ever seen such looks & techniques. I’ve always had a special touch even as an assistant. Funny story, when I finally got my license & wasn’t going to be predominantly shampooing hair, there were clients disappointed in that lol. I had gained clientele simply by giving the best shampoo and head massage they had ever had.

Before even fully knowing what I was doing (needless to say, I would improvise a lot) I was a beast with hair color. Shortly after being on the floor, I decided to shadow one of the top earners in the salon & she taught me a lot about color. This grew my love for the art within it all.

My clients have always bragged about the feeling I give them. A sense of calm & serenity. Also a thorough appointment through and through.

What’s next?
I will for sure take hair artistry with me so long as my hands work.

I have other endeavors & my plans include combining them into one location. It’ll be something the world has never seen before. Remember I am the trendsetter!
