Daily Inspiration: Meet Chabeli Hernández

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chabeli Hernández.

Hi Chabeli, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Chabeli Hernandez, I am Cuban and currently a professional dancer of different styles, such as salsa, flamenco, ballet, folklore, contemporary, bachata and other Cuban styles. I started in the world of dance at the age of eight dancing in different theaters in Havana, such as the National Theater of Cuba, the Martí Theater, the Grand Theater of Havana among others, initially I felt trapped only by flamenco, but as I got to know other styles I fell in love with dance in its entirety, today ballet and salsa are one of my favorite styles. In 2017 through the National School of Arts ENA I graduated as a professional dancer of fusion dances at the Lizt Alfonso dance Cuba school where I continued my career for 5 years in which I had the opportunity to perform numerous functions throughout the island of Cuba and outside it as well. I participated in the Santa Lucia International Festival in Mexico, a tour of different states of Canada with more than 17 performances sold in full, and another through Europe in 2022 in countries such as Germany, Italy and Spain. In 2019 I had the opportunity to dance at the gala for SSMM the Kings of Spain at the Gran Teatro de La Habana and tonight for me represents one of the most incredible experiences of my career so far. I have participated in different exchanges and intensive courses with teachers such as: the CasaPatas Spain Foundation, and Misty Copeland Principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre. In 2021 during the pandemic I participated in an international online contest: Dance Choreo Internacional” in which thanks to my interpretation and choreography “Walking on your spell” I was awarded a second place and a summer scholarship at Barcelona Dance Center during the Cooking Festival. In 2022 my life changed when I came to live in the United States I continued to train, auditioned and little by little I joined the world of the artists-dancers of Miami. I have accompanied artists like Goyo in the Billboard Latin women in music 2023 awards, Will Smith and India Martínez in Premio lo Nuestro 2025, French Montana at the opening of FIFA 2025, Gloria Estefan in her video clip “la vecina” for the launch of her new album and I was part of the cast of dancers of the 25th anniversary concert of Willy Chirino. In addition, I have had the opportunity to dance twice for Donald Trump in Mar-a-Lago. Recently 1/2026 I participated in a commercial with Thalia for the Mercado Libre company. Throughout my career and in parallel I have been a dance teacher of all ages and currently I continue to practice. I am very happy and proud of the road traveled that is also dedicated to my family who are the ones who have accompanied me every step of the way and have never allowed me to give up so I can only say that I am going for more

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As every road has had its lows and highs I remember a hard moment in 2018 when we were preparing for 6 months the premiere of a Latido show and despite the fact that it is part of all rehearsals and others, the day before the first season performance I was excluded from the cast (and for the entire season) apparently due to weight problems

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently dance in various companies here in Miami and teach in schools in after school programs. Since I arrived here I have uploaded my dances to TikTok and people love it today I have a community of 58k organic followers all, they see me on the street and always say: Are you the Cuban dancer of TikTok? And I admit that I love that, to be recognized for my art, for what I have done all my life and feel that little human warmth up close

What were you like growing up?
I was always a very focused and extremely hardworking girl, applied and disciplined, my mom took me to train all the time even if it was summer or a Saturday and I don’t remember ever complaining, she also always says that I am very resilient and positive. I consider myself a cheerful person above all although a little sensitive
