Daily Inspiration: Meet Amelia Visbal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Visbal.

Hi Amelia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a licensed esthetician whose passion for skincare blossomed from my own acne struggles. I started to struggle with acne since I was as young as eleven years old. My mom would take me to different dermatologist offices or skincare aisles in store, but nothing seemed to work. For years I tried every product, pill, and recommendation that was presented to me, but the results never came. Once I got to college I took matters into my own hands. I found an esthetician that was an acne specialist and allowed myself to trust her. I slowly started to see improvement for once… as soon as I saw changes, I became obsessed. I was addicted to the results, I wanted to see just how much better it could get. I started to research supplements, lifestyle changes, everything. I dedicated myself to my skincare completely and just 6 months later, my skin was clear! After seeing my own improvement, I was obsessed with all things skincare and knew this was something I had to pursue. I wanted to continue seeing progress, prevent new skin concerns from arising, and suddenly I realized it was something I could share with others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I feel that my career in skincare was meant for me. My passion developed while I was in college but after graduating and beginning to prepare for masters school, I could not shake the feeling of wanting to pursue something in the skincare industry. Being a first generation Cuban, I knew my parents would not approve of me going to esthetician school over pursuing a masters degree. The day I was supposed to take my GRE exam, I somehow completely overslept, missing it. After realizing I had missed my exam, I didn’t feel any worry and instead took it as a sign to go tour the esthetician school I ended up enrolling in. Divine intervention.

Making this decision was my first real adult decision made for me, by me, and only me.

The risk paid off. I showed up everyday ready to learn, practice, and study on my own. Once I passed my exam for my esthetics license, I ended up landing a spa coordinator (front desk) position working for the very same esthetician who helped me achieve clear skin. I was working two different jobs but I made sure to show up at the spa and give 110% daily. My attitude and perseverance paid off as I was offered the opportunity to start training as an esthetician on their team. Now I am five years into my esthetics career at Paz Skin Care. It was like taking the leap of faith made everything fall into place.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
