Daily Inspiration: Meet Amanda Solis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Solis.

Hi Aanda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I would watch my brother bake for fun at home and I always loved helping and being involved in his crazy creations. But 11 years ago I started doing birthday cakes for the family and some friends. I was currently enrolled in Miami Dade College for business admin degree when I decided that baking was my passion and happiness. I enrolled in culinary school and graduated in 2013 as a pastry chef. I would take private classes and group classes in Micheals Arts and craft to learn new skills like how to make animals cake toppers or flower toppers. I learned how to work with fondant and I created a little at home business. Originally the name was Amanda’s unique treats but after having my own kids, I realized that what I loved making most was child’s birthday cakes, so I decided to change the name to A mom’s sweet life. Making my kid’s birthday cakes have been so much fun, I love the creativity and all the different designs and themes they are, and each cake can be made different.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Like any business, it’s been an up and down but the most tough struggle has been losing my dad because he was my biggest fan. He worked at an auto part store and saw tons of people on a daily, my dad would sell all my daily treats and promote me. After he past away, I definitely saw a loss in income and clients.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love to bake and decorate, through the years iv put together parties and little by little my business has expanded to offering more than just a cake for your party. We offer tables and chairs for rentals as well as table centerpieces created by me. I specialize in cakes and always will, it’s really what I love to do but I also offer small treats and I put together dessert tables for parties. I am most proud of where I am today 11 years after and how far iv come and how much iv improved my skills. My goal is to always try to improve where ever I can. What sets me aside from others would be my passion and unique touch, I love to make people feel special with an amazing delicious cake.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the multi-culture city I live in you can find amazing food and restaurants almost all around. What I like least is the traffic.
