Today we’d like to introduce you to Alvin Anthony
Hi Alvin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I took piano lessons growing up, but I really fell in love with music in high school when a friend showed me how to play drums and we started a rock band. I played in bands for about 5 years before deciding to get into songwriting and music production. Early on, I was signed to a small publishing company, where I would write songs for DJs. The publisher didn’t have that many opportunities, so we ended up parting ways. I got into recording studios shortly after that and worked my way up to head engineer at some of New York City’s top studios, most notably The Cutting Room and Mercy Sound. Because I was generating so much income for the studios, I was able to use the rooms during down time for personal projects. That’s really where I got my music production business started. I worked with many independent artists, before getting introduced to Play-N-Skillz, the owners of CTM Latin, the publisher I am currently signed to. Play-N-Skillz have put me in the position to work with many of the worlds largest artists as a producer and songwriter. The studio we work out of is in Miami and after signing with CTM Latin, I moved from New York to be close to the studio. I also started releasing music as a DJ-artist about 4 years ago and have had a lot of success.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a struggle for sure. Lots of ups and downs, but that’s really what makes it a beautiful process. At the end of the day, my dream was to write and produce for the words biggest artists and that’s what I’m currently doing. There’s so much competition, so there’s no way it could be smooth, but that’s what keeps you sharp and always improving. And I became a DJ in the process as well, which is icing on the cake I didn’t expect when I started.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known for my production and songwriting. I’ve played guitar on major records and have been on projects associated with some of the worlds largest franchises. I’ve worked on music in almost every style and I think my beginnings in rock, playing with a band gives me a unique way of making beats in the current state of music which is heavily electronic and computer oriented.
