Today, we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Adkins.
Hi Adriana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I have always had the hobby of photographing things around me. It wasn’t until my husband gifted me my first Canon Mirrorless for our anniversary with a “go for it” look in his eyes that I finally made it a business and took my hobby/passion professionally.
Little did I know people would love my work and fast forward three years I would be slammed with bookings and even traveling to capture special moments for lovers and families! I got published in a couple of magazines last year so now just looking forward to completing my next set of goals for 2024.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Surprisingly very smooth luckily most of my trial and error years happened way before I considered doing this professionally. I had learned about my camera, especially Canon cameras so well prior to doing this professionally so I felt comfortable but what helped the transition go smoothly was that Naples is a small town that knows everybody so word-of-mouth weighs heavily.
Once I began to build my portfolio up to talking it was only a matter of time before I got regular business. I will say that the first Photoshoot that gave me the most business was of a sweet friend, the maternity session that she asked me to do on her property. She had these beautiful trees that looked like a forest in the northeast but it’s just in backyard South Florida. So shout out to Julia for asking me to do her session and trusting me with the vision.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer and creative director. I specialize in couples, families, and intimate weddings. However, I frequently do lifestyle branding photography for professionals. When I have time I indulge in creative shoots/fashion photography which I love because I can really push the envelope on some things that I normally can’t with families or weddings.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Aside from me wanting to be sure I use my passion and gift to glorify Christ, my family matters most. I am a homeschool mom, and I love that this passion allows me to be able to not miss a moment with my son and husband and to also have the time to pour into others.
We are a host family for the organization called Better Together, which focuses on hosting kids so that reunification can happen prior to having to go through the state’s foster system. Better Together is making amazing waves in Florida and I’m honored to be a part of that.
