Today we’d like to introduce you to William Martinez
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At a young age I was always fascinated with the unusual and unexplained. As I matured I also began my love for TV and film production and was highly involved in my high schools production of news and announcements. I began to develop skills in film editing, production and produced hundreds of shows during my high school career. After my scholastic time I got involved into the world of specialty finance and had many success in that industry but my love for creating and producing remained dormant. In 2017 I decided I was going to finally take a chance and create a podcast where I could talk about whatever I wanted and produce, create and distribute my own content. That love for creating and production coupled with the long fascination with the unexplained and obscure that was the inception of Dark Fringe Radio. Since then we have have broadcasted more than 153 episodes and have over 95 thousand followers on our social media.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Many challenges. Learning the technical aspect was a bit challenging specifically platforming and distributing content through different streaming platforms. One of the most often overlooked obstacles in podcasting is consistency. Being consistent is much harder than it sounds but it is very hard to balance your professional, and personal lives and still produce new and hopefully good content on a consistent basis. Learning on how to distribute and market your own podcast effectively eight years ago was much harder task in comparison to today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started my finance career back in 2000 when I was employed by JP Morgan Chase in particular the sub prime mortgage division. I had a very successful eight year career when unfortunately the financial crash of 2008. After that time I got involved in specialty finance and was employed by a small start up finance company and helped scale and grow that business and it was eventually purchased by Blackstone. That was a very big project that I was so very proud of.. Overall what i believe sets me apart from everyone else is determination. When my heart is into something my determination is unmatched.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes one of the most important lessons I learned is that is how fragile our system and way of live is. Everything stopped almost like time stopped but at the same time creativity was at an all time high and many people took advantage of the down time to start a new business and create new things. There were so many new personalities, shows, podcasts, and music it just seemed like a boom of content on social media. So overall being able to take advantage of such a crazy time in our lives was I think was the silver lining in regards to the Covid 19 crisis.
