Today we’d like to introduce you to Virginia Marvel.
Virginia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been a traditional visual artist most of my life since the age of 4. My parents always encouraged my talent, so I never stopped learning anything and everything I could to improve my skills. Eventually, It led me to where I am today as a professional artist of many mediums and a tattooer of 16 years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Many struggles along the way as a female artist. I do believe it made me a better artist than my fellow male counterparts haha!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I teach art. I enjoy teaching the youth mostly as they are the more receptive students. My full-time job is painter and tattooer. I own a studio in Pompano Beach Florida where I work daily. Unless I’m traveling to work on murals, or also sometimes I will travel for tattooing. I am most proud of my works my children are able to appreciate. Murals. Walls. Canvases. Art shows they can attend and see and critique my work. I love that.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love this city because it’s close to the ocean. Nature here thrives and living surrounded by it inspires me. Even tho we work in buildings every day, a walk to the beach is just a few minutes away. It is the best for me. It pains me when I see people trash and disrespect our beaches and wetlands, we are so lucky to have.
