Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Gutierrez.
Hi Vanessa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for makeup started working straight out of high school working Infront of the MAC Counter watching all the artist do makeup on clients coming in and would see their reactions and the art that makeup was and instantly fell in love. So i got a job at MAC and was with them for over 10 years and received all the training and guidance working with them was amazing worked industry events and got amazing training with top MAC artist, then while working at MAC I went to Paul Mitchell the School and got amazing training as well with them and got the opportunity to go to Caper in Vegas to take classes with top artists in Paul Mitchell. After graduating i kept working with MAC and decided instead of doing hair ( coloring ) i decided to expand my knowledge and learn to do up styles for special occasions and weddings since there weren’t many people doing both hair and makeup in the industry. While working with MAC covid happened and unfortunately that was the end of my MAC career but the start of a new beginning that would be the best decision I ever made! Following covid that’s when i went solo and Vanessa Artistry took off and started building my clientele and business. I’ve been blessed with amazing clients and opportunities including destination weddings, meeting amazing brides to be, magazine photo spreads, working with amazing creatives and having my work featured in Vogue magazine as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not starting a business isn’t always smooth sailing, there were plenty of days that work wasn’t as busy especially starting off during Covid. I had to do some free work to get my name out there had many clients cancel due to being sick with covid or just cancelling in general. But doing the free work and networking lead me to meet many amazing people in the industry and from that got more work!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Bridal hair and makeup but do hair and makeup for any special occasion. The highlight of my career i would say is having my work featured in local magazines and Vogue as well as having a destination wedding in the Bahamas as well as now being full time hair and makeup artist here in Naples, FL and part time artist in Colorado
What makes you happy?
being able to make people feel the most beautiful they’ve ever felt in their life and on such a big special day in their life as well in their wedding day.
