Conversations with Tiffany Ellis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Ellis.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into event planning started long before I ever imagined owning a wedding and event planning company. Around 2010, I helped plan my best friend’s brother’s wedding, and something just clicked. I loved the fast pace, the creativity, and the challenge of bringing so many moving pieces together for one beautiful purpose, celebrating love.

During that wedding, the cake arrived with bumps and bubbles in the fondant and I remember asking my best friend if we had any leftover flowers, luckily, we did. I told her to bring them to me just in case while I figured out what to do. As I was standing there thinking through a solution, the executive chef from the catering team handed me a cold glass of champagne and said it was for “inspiration.” So with flowers, champagne, and a little bit of pressure, I got to work.

By the time I was done, the cake looked gorgeous. The couple had no idea anything had happened, and everyone simply kept enjoying the celebration. I still remember the rush of that moment. Solving the problem, protecting the experience, seeing everyone happy, and watching their loved ones celebrate their union. It felt incredible, and I realized I truly loved the organized chaos of events.

That moment stayed with me because it showed me what great planning is really about. It is not just making things beautiful, although I deeply love that part. It is about creating space for people to be present. I believe couples should feel like guests of honor at their own wedding, not hosts worried about what is happening next or whether everyone is okay. They should be able to breathe, enjoy the day, and feel fully celebrated by the people they love.

At the time, I was pursuing a career in nursing, so event planning stayed more like a passion on the side for many years. Eventually, I realized that creating meaningful experiences brought me a different kind of fulfillment, and I made the decision to pursue event planning full time.

Today, I am the proud owner and lead planner and designer of MOD Events Planning & Design, a Miami based company specializing in bespoke weddings and celebrations. What started as a passion has grown into a business where I get to help couples and families create celebrations that feel intentional, beautiful, and deeply personal to them.

Looking back, my path was not perfectly straight, but every part of it helped shape the planner, designer, and business owner I am today. I am grateful that I get to do work that challenges me creatively, allows me to serve people in a meaningful way, and lets me be part of some of the most important moments in their lives.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but I think that is true for most entrepreneurs.

One of the biggest struggles has been learning how to quiet the imposter syndrome that comes with being a business owner and creative. There are moments when I question if I am doing enough, if we are growing fast enough, or if I belong in certain rooms. I think many entrepreneurs experience that, especially in an industry where so much of the work is expected to look effortless.

What people see on the outside is the beautiful wedding day, the finished design, the happy couple, and the celebration. What they do not see are the hours of planning, logistics, communication, problem solving, research, budgeting, design revisions, testing new ideas, managing timelines, coordinating vendors, and sometimes navigating family dynamics behind the scenes. There is so much emotional, creative, and logistical labor that goes into making an event feel seamless.

There have been hard moments, learning curves, and seasons where I have had to grow personally just as much as professionally. But even with the challenges, I would choose this industry again and again. I truly love what I do. I love the people, the creativity, the pressure, the transformation, and the privilege of being trusted with such meaningful moments in people’s lives.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the owner, lead planner, and designer of MOD Events Planning & Design. We specialize in bespoke weddings and celebrations that are deeply personal, thoughtfully designed, and centered around the people being celebrated.

I love design, but for me, design is not just about creating a beautiful room. It is about creating a space where the intention of the celebration can be felt. For weddings, I want guests to walk in and say, “Oh my goodness, this is so them.” For social events, I want guests to feel immersed in what they are celebrating. Every detail should feel connected to the story, the energy, and the people at the center of it.

While we are known for creating beautiful events, what we really do is create experiences. Every decision, whether it is related to design, logistics, guest experience, or flow, is made with intention. We want our clients to feel seen, understood, and supported throughout the planning process, and we want their guests to walk away feeling like they experienced something meaningful.

What I am most proud of is the trust our clients place in us. We are often invited into some of the most important seasons of people’s lives, and that is something I never take lightly. Our clients trust us with their vision, their worries, their family dynamics, and all the little details that matter to them. Being able to guide them through that with care is one of the greatest honors of this work.

I think what sets MOD Events apart is that we blend creativity with strategy. Beautiful design is important, but a beautiful event means very little if it does not function well or if our clients spend the day stressed and managing details. We approach every celebration with creativity, organization, and care.

We also believe no two celebrations should feel the same. Rather than following trends just to follow them, we focus on creating events that reflect the people at the center of them. The goal is not to create a “Pinterest perfect” wedding. The goal is to create an experience that feels authentic, memorable, and uniquely theirs.

At the end of the day, I want our clients to feel like the guests of honor, not the hosts. They should be enjoying their celebration, soaking up every second, and feeling fully present with the people they love while we handle everything else.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is connection. I think life’s most meaningful moments are the ones we get to share with the people who truly know us, love us, and show up for us.

That belief influences both my life and my work. I care deeply about creating spaces where people can be present, let their guard down, and fully experience what they are celebrating. Whether it is a wedding, a milestone birthday, a quinceañera, or an intimate gathering, I believe celebrations give us a chance to pause and honor the people and moments that matter.

Personally, my family, friends and life I am building matter most to me. Those relationships remind me why celebration is so important. Life moves quickly, and I do not think we should wait for perfect circumstances to honor love, joy, growth, and the people who make life feel full.

That is a big part of why I love this work. Planning and design allow me to help create those meaningful moments for others. The beautiful details matter, but the feeling behind them matters even more.
