Conversations with The Center For Assessment And Transdiagnostic Treatment (T-CATT)

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Center For Assessment And Transdiagnostic Treatment (T-CATT).

The Center for Assessment and Transdiagnostic Treatment (T-CATT), we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We are two licensed psychologists who met in graduate school, connected by a shared passion for evidence-based care, and have been walking parallel paths ever since. After years of clinical training, collaboration, and community work, we joined together to form a practice committed to providing high-quality, transdiagnostic mental health care in South Florida as well as virtually, across PSYPACT participating states.

Dr. Niza is based in Miami and Dr. Jamie in Boca Raton—two vibrant communities that reflect our cultural roots. We bring lived experience and cultural humility to our work. We understand the importance of tailored care that respects identity, language, family systems, and the values that shape emotional well-being.

We were fortunate to train under Dr. Jill Ehrenreich-May, the developer of the Unified Protocol for Children and Adolescents (an evidence-based CBT and mindfulness-oriented treatment that takes an emotion-focused approach); her mentorship deeply shaped our clinical techniques. We believe in the power of transdiagnostic treatment to address the core emotional and behavioral patterns that underlie a wide range of struggles—from anxiety and mood concerns to stress, perfectionism, frustration, and interpersonal conflict.

Together, we created this practice to offer accessible, compassionate, and scientifically grounded therapy to individuals and families in our community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At T-CATT, we like to think of our journey so far as smooth sailing — building a practice and training center that stays on course with our mission: delivering evidence-based, transdiagnostic care and high-quality training for clinicians.

But like any good voyage, we’ve also faced our share of trials and tribulations:

Getting set up – From drafting operating agreements to fine-tuning policies (deposits, cancellations, good-faith estimates), we’ve learned that building strong infrastructure is just as critical as providing great therapy.

Navigating technology – Getting websites, Google Business, and secure telehealth systems running smoothly took persistence (and plenty of troubleshooting behind the scenes).

Uncertainty in business – Balancing expansion with sustainability — knowing when to add new services, trainings, or staff — has been both exciting and challenging.

Each challenge has taught us something valuable and made our practice stronger. And through it all, we’ve prioritized what is important: keeping children, families, and clinicians supported with the best tools and care available.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our goal is to help clients learn how to navigate their strong emotions and face situations that they have previously avoided or endured with great distress due to strong emotions such as fear, anxiety, sadness, or anger. We strive to help our clients to engage fully in their lives, learn to accept the emotions that come and go, and learn coping skills to last a lifetime. We also aim to help caregivers to support their children in this journey and to learn their own skills for managing the stress of parenting children with big emotions.

At T-CATT, we’re most proud of staying true to our mission: providing children, families, and clinicians with evidence-based, transdiagnostic care that makes a real difference. Whether it’s helping a child face their worries, guiding a parent through new strategies, or training professionals in cutting-edge interventions, we’re proud to be building a practice grounded in science, compassion, and community impact.

Many individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, anger and frustration, OCD, and related concerns experience symptoms spanning more than one of these common disorders and clinical presentations often do not fall into just one of the categories listed here. A transdiagnostic approach, one that addresses core concerns across disorders, is likely most efficient in these cases. For this reason, T-CATT providers specialize in the Unified Protocol, a cognitive-behavioral therapy approach that also incorporates mindfulness and awareness-based strategies to target distress related to the experience of strong emotions in general. This allows our providers to address more than one related problem set at once. As part of our intake, we will determine treatment goals and strategies that will be most effective for the concerns you or your child are facing.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
At T-CATT, we believe networking is about building a village of support. We partner with pediatricians, schools, and community organizations, while also staying active in professional associations and online platforms. By combining community outreach, professional collaboration, and a strong digital presence, we create meaningful connections that help children, families, and clinicians thrive.
