Hi Tanisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Tanisha, and I am the owner of Dessertsbythepound based out of South Florida. My journey started in 2020 with a passion for baking and bringing joy to people through homemade desserts. What began as making banana pudding for family, friends, and special occasions quickly grew into something much bigger as people started requesting a variety of more desserts like pound cakes, cheesecakes, and recommending them to others.
I built my business through hard work, consistency, and a commitment to quality. I specialize in creating desserts that not only taste amazing but also help make memories for my customers’ celebrations and events. From cupcakes to 3-tier cakes, heart cakes with pictures, chocolate-covered desserts, candy apples, and more, my business has become a one-stop shop for any occasion. Over the years, I’ve expanded my menu, strengthened my brand, and learned how to balance creativity with entrepreneurship.
One of the things I’m most proud of is that my business has been built through relationships, word-of-mouth referrals, and customer satisfaction. Every order represents trust, commitment and I work hard to make sure each customer has a great experience.
Today, Dessertsbythepound continues to grow, and my goal is to keep serving my community while inspiring others to pursue their dreams. My goal is to continue expanding my business and one day it will be known worldwide.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has helped me become a stronger business owner. Designing cakes is a form of artistry, there has been times when of gotten it right, and there has been countless of sleepless nights where everything that could have went wrong did. I believe that when you are passionate about what you do and remain dedicated to your vision, success will follow.

Desserts by the Pound is a luxury dessert brand specializing in custom cakes, gourmet treats, dessert tables, and unforgettable dessert experiences for weddings, birthdays, corporate events, and special celebrations. I am known for creating desserts that combine elegance, creativity, and exceptional flavor, turning ordinary moments into memorable experiences.
What I am most proud of is being a full time mother, baker, and correctional officer. I built my business from the ground up through passion, perseverance, and faith. Watching my creations become a part of my clients’ most important life moments is incredibly rewarding, deeimv the joy on there fave and tears of happiness in there eyes. I realized that for some people this is more then just cake its an experience and a lasting memory. Every order represents trust, and I take pride in delivering not just desserts, but joy and lasting memories.
What sets me apart is my commitment to creating a personalized experience for every client. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all desserts. I take the time to understand each customer’s vision and bring it to life with attention to detail, quality ingredients, and luxury presentation. My goal is for every client to feel celebrated, valued, and amazed when they see—and taste—the final product.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5 to 10 years, I see Desserts by the Pound evolving into a recognized luxury dessert brand known for creativity, quality, and unforgettable experiences. My vision is to expand beyond custom desserts into a full-scale dessert studio that offers custom cakes, gourmet treats, dessert tables, and event experiences for celebrations of all sizes.
I want Desserts by the Pound to become a household name, not only in my local community but throughout Florida and beyond. I envision partnering with major events, hosting pop-up experiences, mentoring aspiring bakers, and creating opportunities that inspire other entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams.
Most importantly, I want the brand to continue representing and delivering excellence, elegance, and innovation while bringing people together through beautiful desserts. This journey started with a passion for making banana pudding, and I believe the next decade will be about building a lasting legacy that extends far beyond desserts.
