Conversations with Sharrell Lordeus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharrell Lordeus.

Sharrell, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Briefly, my story started in Miami-Dade County. I grew up around hardship and instability. My mom became a mother at 13, had my second brother at 14, had me at 15, and by 17 had my youngest brother all with my father. They were children raising children. Unfortunately, both of those relationships are mostly non-existent today, and navigating that shaped a lot of who I became.

I learned very young what survival, resilience, and figuring things out on your own looked like.

Years later, I had the opportunity to visit Dubai through my then-boyfriend’s mother’s generosity. I remember thinking, ‘How did a little girl who once lived in Little Haiti end up across the world?’ And while I was there in 2011, I felt a very clear whisper from God that one day I would work with women. I didn’t understand what that meant, but I couldn’t ignore it.

So I started building, creating an app, hosting women’s events in my uncle’s backyard, and creating community without really having a blueprint.

Then around 2023, I hit a season of uncertainty. I questioned whether I was truly walking in purpose or forcing something because I felt lost. I did a three-day Daniel fast asking God for clarity and confirmation. Through that season, I felt led to continue.

That eventually became Pretty Girl Progression and the podcast. A faith-based self-growth and wellness platform created to support women, especially Black women, because I knew what it felt like to need community, resources, and healing spaces. Today, I’m continuing to build what started as a whisper into something much bigger.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not … Whew, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There were real growing pains. I invested thousands of dollars into trying to build an app early on, and I later realized the people I trusted to help me weren’t really the right fit, or didn’t have the level of integrity and execution I thought they did. That was a hard but necessary lesson.

I also poured my own hard-earned money into hosting backyard events because I believed in building community, but at the time I didn’t understand the business side of things pricing, structure, or sustainability. I was young, passionate, and honestly just figuring it out as I went.

There were also seasons where I felt like certain connections and distractions slowed me down or pulled me off course. But even those moments taught me discernment, boundaries, and alignment.

If I’m honest, a lot of what didn’t work was preparation for what is working now. I just didn’t know it at the time. And looking back… I basically paid for an ‘advanced masterclass in trial and error’ that I did not sign up for, but somehow still graduated from.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m really known for two things…hosting and using my voice, especially through my podcast.

Over time, that has naturally expanded into event hosting. I’ve hosted weddings, engagement parties, graduations, and even movie premiere-style events. It’s something I never necessarily planned, but I’ve learned that God has a funny way of placing things in your path that feel so aligned with who you are. Things you would almost do for free because they come so naturally.

At the core of it, I genuinely love hospitality. I come from a background working as a server and bartender, so creating experiences, reading a room, and making people feel welcomed has always been second nature. That naturally evolved into curating intentional, memorable events.

I’m also very proud of my podcast, Pretty Girl Progression, because it creates a space for women to come on and share their stories, faith, personal growth, and lived experiences. I love being able to bridge that gap and offer a safe space where women feel seen, heard, and comfortable opening up.

For me, it’s not about me being the center of it, it’s about using what God has given me to create space for other women to be seen the way God sees them, and to remind them that their stories matter.

And I’m also really proud of something I created called The Bloom Room at First Baptist Church of Plantation. It’s a women’s group where we do life together through monthly meetups. We have real conversations about what we’re navigating in the world and ground them in biblical scripture. It’s a space for women to be supported, encouraged, and strengthened in their walk with Christ while still being honest about everyday life.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would say my biggest advice is to stay close to Jesus and lean into the resources and guidance He gives you early on. Stay in the Word, stay grounded, and surround yourself with a strong community. The people who think bigger than you and challenge you to grow.

I would also invest in myself sooner. HELLO!!! Invest in my mind, my body, and my spirit because I’ve learned that all of it matters in building anything meaningful.

If I could go back, I would remind myself to keep ‘baby Sharrell’ in mind more often and trust the process without rushing it. But I also believe everything happens in timing, and I’m just grateful I’m still here, still learning, and still building something that can make her proud.

So my advice is simple: stay close to Jesus, invest in yourself fully, and don’t rush what’s being built in you.
