Conversations with Savage Styles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savage Styles

Hi Savage , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Savage Styles, born and raised in the county of Dade, and I’m proud to be one of Miami’s youngest entrepreneurs in the game with my own salon at the age of 23. I started doing hair at just 10 years old, turning a childhood passion into a real business by the time I was in middle school. Hair has always been my calling, and I pursued it with everything I had, graduating high school and college early, then going straight into cosmetology school. I knew exactly what I wanted to do, but the journey wasn’t always easy. I started in a barbershop and later moved to a beauty salon for older women, thinking it would be a calmer environment. But, young or old, drama was still there. After building a loyal clientele, I made the leap to open my own suite, thinking it was the dream.

But the isolation of being in a suite felt more like a prison than freedom. I realized that with the money I was spending, I could have something bigger—something with my name on it, where people would see me and know I existed. So, in the middle of the pandemic in 2020, I opened my own salon, Savage Styles, in Miami Gardens. At first, I worked alone, but I soon realized the power of having a team. Now, Savage Styles is a thriving one-stop shop, the #1 salon in Miami, and I couldn’t be prouder. From doing hair as a kid to becoming a celebrity hairstylist and CEO, my journey is a testament to the power of passion and persistence.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey to where I am today hasn’t been easy. While owning my own salon at 23 might sound glamorous, it took a lot of hard work and determination. Building a solid team has been one of the biggest challenges. It’s not just about hiring workers—it’s about finding people who are passionate, hardworking, and share the same vision for growth. Many people come and go, but building a reliable team that wants to grow with the business takes time and effort.

Another challenge has been building a loyal clientele, not just customers. It’s more than offering a service—it’s about creating lasting relationships, trust, and consistency. In this industry, clients have endless options, so it’s about going above and beyond every single day to make sure they choose you. The grind never stops, and while the results are rewarding, the path has been filled with constant learning and growth.

What people don’t often talk about is the paperwork and the behind-the-scenes work that goes into building a business. From getting licenses and permits to understanding contracts and keeping up with taxes, there’s a lot of paperwork that people don’t see. It’s not just about being creative or having talent in your craft—there’s a whole business side that you need to master to keep things running smoothly. There are so many moving parts: managing finances, handling legal documents, keeping up with insurance, and making sure everything is compliant with local laws. It’s a lot to juggle, but it’s all part of the process if you want to build a sustainable, successful business.

Marketing is another huge part of building a business, and it’s way more than just social media. While platforms like Instagram and Facebook have helped me grow my brand, you can’t rely solely on them. Traditional marketing—like word of mouth, community engagement, and even local advertising—plays a big role too. It’s about getting your name out there through different channels, whether that’s collaborating with other businesses, attending industry events, or offering specials that draw in new clients. Building relationships with clients so they spread the word has been just as valuable, if not more, than social media. You have to be strategic and think about marketing on every level to really grow and sustain a business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am Miami’s youngest in charge—CEO, celebrity hairstylist, and salon owner. I specialize in all things beauty, with a reputation for my famous stitch braids and bold hair coloring. What I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come at such a young age in the game, still striving for more. It wasn’t an easy road, and I had to figure it out on my own, but that’s what makes my journey so rewarding. I’m committed to pushing boundaries and setting new standards in the beauty industry.

Along with all my success in the beauty industry, I’ve also managed to pursue other dreams, like becoming a music artist. I’ve expanded my brand by introducing all-natural organic hair products, selling virgin and raw hair bundles, closure lace wigs, and more. I’ve also created custom no-slip bonnets, headbands, elastic bands, handmade mink lashes, and much more. Balancing all these ventures has been a challenge, but it’s been incredibly rewarding to see my vision come to life across multiple industries.

What sets me apart from others in the beauty industry is my unwavering dedication to authenticity and quality. I’ve spent years honing my craft, from perfecting my famous stitch braids and hair coloring techniques to curating a line of all-natural organic hair products. My passion for beauty extends beyond just styling hair; it encompasses creating products that nourish and enhance natural beauty.

I’m also a multifaceted entrepreneur, seamlessly blending my work as a celebrity hairstylist with my aspirations as a music artist. This unique combination allows me to connect with a diverse audience, expanding my reach and influence. I understand the importance of building genuine relationships with my clients, turning them into loyal supporters rather than just customers.

Finally, my journey has taught me the value of perseverance and resilience. I started from humble beginnings, navigating the challenges of the industry on my own. This experience fuels my drive to succeed and inspires others to pursue their dreams, making me not just a stylist but a role model in my community.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If I could offer advice to someone starting out in the beauty industry, it would be to prioritize saving your money. I wish someone had told me this when I was young and splurging on every Jordan release instead of investing in my future. While it’s tempting to spend on the latest trends and immediate gratification, building a financial cushion is crucial for long-term success.

Additionally, take the time to invest in your education and skills. Surround yourself with mentors and like-minded individuals who can guide you and share valuable insights. Building a strong network can open doors you never imagined. Lastly, don’t be afraid to take risks and make mistakes—they’re part of the learning process. Stay committed to your passion, work hard, and remember that success doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a journey that requires patience and perseverance.
