Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarahi Rivera.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
MY PARTY POP was born as a creative outlet. I became a mom during the beginning of the pandemic and also returned to college as a graduate student. During this time, I also started discovering the immersive world of organic balloon decorating which seemed so fun and therapeutic. Ironically, I decided to add more onto my plate when I began researching techniques to better understand the method and even arranged to take my first in-person balloon course to learn basic tips and tricks regarding the whole organic concept. For this class, I encouraged one of my younger teen sisters to tag along being that it was going to be held in Orlando, so she did. Following the class, I decided that I wanted to fully commit and made it a goal to create the business just a few weeks later. However, I knew right away that I could not do it alone which is why I encouraged my two younger sisters, Rosy and Adriana, to help me and they have been part of the MY PARTY POP team since.
MY PARTY POP will turn one this June, and while we are still small, it is something I’m very proud of.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I cannot say that it has been easy. Regardless of how small a party or event may be, for that client, it is a significant moment so the pressure to meet expectations is high. Learning to source the best products locally, finding vendors for props and simply learning to price ourselves fairly given the market rates has been a challenge. We began with the goal to bring quality at a reasonable price, but the reality is that an incredible amount of time goes into prepping and completing each backdrop design, and every client may not appreciate that. However, we are also fortunate to have a supportive team. Our families remind us that consistency is key, and as long as communication is clear, we will continue to work hard.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an educator at a heart and by trade. I work in the non-profit sector focusing on early childhood education. Naturally, I’m also a creative and I always have been since a child, but getting to create with my bare hands brings me the most satisfaction. I truly believe that the desire to create from the heart, to help a client fulfill a vision and being flexible is our biggest attribute. We aren’t afraid to challenge ourselves.
Something that most that know me, don’t know about me-
Creating is something that has always been a part of me, from drawing as a child to obsessing over the design of a building. If I could do college all over again (which I won’t because I’m exhausted), I would definitely pursue interior design. I can’t help but walk into a building or home and immediately analyze the layout, creating modifications in my head as to what I think would look cooler or simply more practical, with different textures and patterns to really accentuate even the smallest space. It was always a thought, but I also knew it was more from a hobby perspective
