Today we’d like to introduce you to Oliver Bozeman IV
Hi Oliver, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
A highly recruited Quarterback from Dillard High School with multiple division 1 offers. Alcorn State University was where I decided to play college football. Post college I spent 2 seasons playing Arena Football. Due to an injury my Arena career was cut short so I decided to start coaching. It was rough, I was coaching players for free while working part-time at Home Depot. Despite a shaky start, and Gods perfect timing, I was introduced to Dolphins Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Chris Chambers who gave me an opportunity to train Quarterbacks at his facility, The Chamber Fitness Center. During my time there, Mike Vick was making a comeback to the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I began working on preparing him for that upcoming season. Since then, I’ve coached a number of youth, high school, college and NFL players which include Teddy Bridgewater, Justin Fields, James Blackman, Matt Corral, Keyone Jenkins (FIU), Austin Simmons (Ole Miss),Daniel Richardson (FAMU), CJ Bailey ( NC State) Michael Merdinger (UNC), Davi Belfort (VT) and many more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not an easy road! Attempting to break into an industry with no NFL playing experience, there were times along the way when I thought about giving it up. I wasn’t seeing results fast enough. I realized teaching the quarterback position required a lot of time and patience, especially for youth players. The more time spent with my quarterbacks, I was able to create specific drills and excercises that maximize the speed of their progression. This is what I feel makes me unique, to learn the needs/weakness of my quarterbacks and work with each accordingly. My wife Cambreia, being an educator, helped me through this process, and believed in and encouraged me when I couldn’t for myself. She showed me that teaching a skill takes patience and the desire to take the time to develop new and intentional ways to see growth.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known for developing quarterbacks. Taking players at whatever level and finding something that they can improve on, no matter the age. My attention to detail is what sets me apart. I’ve been training quarterbacks for over 15 years and I know that the fundamentals are the basis of a great Quarterback and will teach them until they get it.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Coach David Lee is a mentor and great friend of mine since 2009. Before I started training quarterbacks he sat me down and really broke down the position from the highest level (NFL). He has passed along to me his knowledge and expertise of the position that I use to teach my quarterbacks. It’s a lot easier to have someone in your corner that’s been there and done it to help you navigate through your journey.
