Conversations with Natalya Maria Spicker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalya Maria Spicker.

Hi Natalya Maria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Cartagena, Colombia and grew up between cultures, which shaped my love for music, storytelling, and community. My grandmother—who is now 100 years old—gave me my first guitar, and that moment planted a seed that would quietly follow me through my entire life.

Like many people, my path wasn’t linear. I spent years building a professional career while still feeling this deeper pull toward music, creativity, and creating spaces where people could connect more authentically. That eventually led me to open a cacao lounge and community space in South Florida, where music, conversation, and intention came together in a really powerful way.

Over time I realized that music had always been the thread connecting everything in my life. Recently I stepped fully into that calling as an artist and songwriter, blending bluesy rock with soulful storytelling and influences from my Latin roots. My music explores themes of transformation, self-discovery, and empowerment.

Right now I’m working on recording my first body of work while continuing to collaborate with communities in Miami and beyond. It feels like everything—from my upbringing to my grandmother’s gift of that guitar—was leading me here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road here has been anything but smooth (or straight). For years I followed a successful, yet highly traditional, professional path in technology and staffing, while feeling a growing call toward music and bringing people together. That path eventually led me to open Aura, a cacao lounge in South Florida (and the only one in the entire state of Florida!) that became a beautiful space for connection. Over time, I realized the work wanted to expand beyond four walls, which led me to close that chapter and create the movement I name GotCacao?.

With GotCacao?, cacao and music began weaving together in a more organic way—showing up in markets, song circles, ecstatic dances, baby showers, and gatherings of all kinds. The intention has always been to serve community with ancient wisdom, help people reconnect with their true nature, and inspire creativity.

Stepping into a solo brand also meant the spotlight shifted onto me in a way I wasn’t used to, but once it did, I realized I was ready. It’s opened the door to connect with people in spaces I never would have imagined while continuing to share music, cacao, and community.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work sits at the intersection of music, cacao, community, and learning. Through my project GotCacao?, I bring ceremonial-grade cacao into spaces like markets, song circles, ecstatic dances, wellness gatherings, and private celebrations. Cacao has a beautiful way of opening people’s hearts and helping them slow down, reconnect with themselves, and access their creativity.

Alongside that, I work in Learning & Development with Robert Half International, one of the largest staffing agencies in the world, where I building learning programs that help staffing pros better support businesses and job seekers—especially as technology and AI continue to reshape the workforce. A big part of my focus is helping people use these tools responsibly and thoughtfully so technology supports human potential rather than replacing it.

Music naturally weaves through everything I do, even cacao.. I’m a bilingual (Spanish/English) songwriter and recording artist blending what I like to call “soul rock” with storytelling and Latin influences. I’ve noticed recently that most people have started calling me the “Cacao Girl” around Miami, which made me laugh but made me realize there’s a brand that’s brewing beneath all the hard work!

What I’m most proud of is creating work that brings people together in meaningful ways and inspires people to give themselves a chance—whether that’s through music, cacao, or helping professionals grow and adapt in a rapidly changing world. What sets my work apart is that it’s all rooted in connection: helping people reconnect with their creativity, their humanity, and their ability to create something meaningful together.

My courage to weave things that would normally not be found in the same room, is somewhat of a differentiator. It’s like mixing weird ingredients in my cacao and creating a masterpiece. I guess I have a knack for “secret sauces”.

What makes you happy?
Creating spaces where people feel safe to open up, connect, and express themselves makes me happy. Whether it’s through music, cacao, or a learning experience, I love witnessing those moments when people reconnect with their creativity or with each other. There’s something really powerful about watching someone soften, sing, share, or realize something new about themselves. Those moments remind me that when people come together with intention, something meaningful always emerges.
