Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Rey.
Hi Natalie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Natalie, people call me Nati or Nat, and I’m a queer creative in Miami. I grew up in Miami traveling and around a lot of art, specifically dance and photography.
The combination of these 3 things became my passion. When I came back home to Miami after being in NYC for 2 years studying dance, I immersed myself in the world of photography. Exploring shooting with film and studio work. natural lighting, working with brands, dancers, and more. While doing this, I also started falling in love with traveling and all there is to learn and experience while you visit a new place.
So naturally, I combined the 2 and started to expand in this too. Currently, I’m working as a freelance photographer in Miami working with dancers and models. While doing this, I’m also traveling and documenting my travels on Instagram with a travel blog coming soon!!
Feel free to message me on Instagram and say hi.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Along the way, there have definitely been challenges… a lot of those being mental health-related. I struggle with depression and an eating disorder and they sometimes get in the way of my creative flow and life in general!
Creating a routine for myself and sticking to it, and prioritizing my needs has been something that’s helped me a lot.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a movement photographer based in Miami, and my favorite humans to photograph are dancers. I would say what sets me apart is my ability to capture emotions in a raw and vulnerable way through my images.
The way I direct the people I photograph also plays a big role in what sets me apart from others.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My favorite part of Miami is how alive the city feels. I strongly dislike the traffic.
