Conversations with Michael Rojas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Rojas.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The love for coffee began many years ago in Costa Rica, our home country. There, it is almost a ritual to drink coffee, or “cafecito” – as we call it.

Drinking Costa Rican coffee for so long set the bar high when it comes to the quality we expect from the beans. We never had a bad experience with the taste of our favorite drink there, and this does not come as a surprise.

In Costa Rica, since 1989 it is forbidden to produce anything, but the highest quality of coffee. The coffee produced in Costa Rica is 100% Arabica, and this translates to the highest quality of coffee beans you will find. So, when we moved to the United States – and we started buying coffee from the supermarket – we began to notice the coffee we were getting was simply not the same.

It had a lower quality, and the taste was just bad! We spent many years buying specialty coffee online, until we decided to investigate what we had to do in order to work on producing our own coffee.

So, a couple of visits to Costa Rica, some Specialty Coffee classes, and roasting adventures after, here we are, offering our product – to coffee lovers out there! The learning process is constant, gratifying, and challenging – but it is also rewarding, and once you taste what we’ve been able to create, our hope is that you as well, can find the quality, and taste you expect from the coffee you drink everyday!

I am happy to be a Specialty Coffee Roaster. Soon our website we’ll be restyled for a great online experience!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I started this journey in the middle of the pandemic. Imagine that! So yes, it’s been a challenge but so far only excellent experiences and the willingness to improve and deliver the best Specialty Coffee as possible.

I am working hard to promote the coffee, since our purpose is to sell our coffee through our website. Main obstacle has been the pandemic but don’t have a reference because I started in the middle of it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have some IT background but always wanted to be my own boss. I am a Specialty Coffee Roaster entrepreneur determined to deliver the best quality and fresh coffee to my customer’s door.

I roast in small batches, work only with Arabica coffee, Specialty coffee green beans, no artificial flavours, single origin and blends, 100% Arabica coffee guaranteed! I roast every week to guarantee fresh coffee, always fresh coffee!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Is working on what you love following good ethics, doing what is right and deliver what you promise.
