Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya White.
Hi Maya, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Today I am one of only 100 people in the world certified in AstroCartoGraphy, a branch of astrology that helps people identify the best places to live or travel to. I truly love what I do, and am grateful that I get to work with people in this capacity. I have been interested in astrology for as long as I can remember.
Even when very young, my Grandmother would wake me up in the middle of the night to observe celestial events. Although I loved astrology, as an adult I didn’t think I would ever make a living at it. I worked (unhappily) at several jobs, and earned a degree in Music, but I was still in search of my professional calling.
Thankfully, through a twist of fate, my life brought me to a place where I rediscovered astrology, and specifically, the guidance of AstroCartoGraphy locational astrology to make sense of my life. Today, I know how much this helps people because it has helped me so much, every step of the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, the longing for a smooth road… The reason I finally started doing astrology full-time was because I got fired from what was supposed to be my ‘perfect’ job. Looking back, it was a miserable job that I was terrible at doing (Administrative Assistant) but, I sure wanted the security that came with that job.
And, I knew the day I got fired that it was all coming down. I went to lunch and have never cried as hard as I did that lunch hour, because I went back to work, and then- it was all over. I went home and sat on the couch and cried for another week. Mostly I was so embarrassed because this last job was just another one in a long string of career mishaps.
At that point, I felt I had nothing to lose, and figured I might as well try my hand doing astrology full time. I was living in Maine at the time, and I took out a 3 line ad in a Portland Maine weekly newspaper. Much to my surprise, within 2 days, I was contacted by a startup magazine called Inner Tapestry, asking if I would write an astrology column for them. Honestly, the doors to my Universe opened up on that day, and I have never looked back.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a professional astrologer, I am most passionate about helping people understand their innate gifts, and strategize with them on how to put those gifts to practical use. My specialty, AstroCartoGraphy, helps people find their best places to live or travel to, but good basic astrology is still the foundation for this amazing branch. Beyond finding one’s best places to live, AstroCartoGraphy helps people integrate on all levels, including being comfortable in their existing bodies and their current lives.
I passed my certification exam for AstroCartoGraphy in 1989, and to earn this, I had to pass one of the hardest tests that I had ever taken. I consider myself to fortunate to have found my calling, and to have that calling beckon to me. And, remember, I had no place to go; I surely never wanted to go back to an office job, and I never had to.
In addition to working with clients, my horoscopes and other articles have been featured around the world. I have had an all-original oracle card deck, my “Easy Astrology Oracle Cards” published and distributed internationally by Hay House. Also, my Sun Sign travel destinations were featured for two consecutive years by Conde Nast Traveler magazine. This year by invitation I am teaching AstroCartoGraphy in Bejing, China as well as US-based Kepler College.
Honestly, though, what I am most proud of is that for over 20 years I have served my clients with integrity and offered true transformational counseling. It’s my approach, but it’s also the depth and value that astrology has to offer each and every person who asks for guidance and is open to receiving wisdom. Astrology is absolutely amazing!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
It’s heartening to see how astrology is becoming more and more accepted. And, people are better educated and conversant in astrology. There are many excellent writers who are providing thoughtful content; and the readers ‘get’ it – right down to those confusing aspects, perplexing houses, and disappearing planets.
How will AI impact (real) astrology? Well, AI does a good job of writing about astrology, except of course, when it just makes stuff up, which happens. I think it’s inevitable that AI will be inserted into astrology; it’s beneficial to relieve the tedium of basic composition, but of course, the question remains about AI’s capacity for sentience. Whether or not AI can offer transformational Soul Life coaching remains to be answered. However, the more I think about it, the more I can see that astrology and AI need to chart a compatible course.
Generally, I think the future of human-based astrology is looking good because there are soul intricacies that reveal the true depth of a person. Knowledge, intuition, and conscious awareness of the human energy field are the tools of the future human astrologer. And, I guess I’m lucky in my niche because I don’t think AI will ever read an AstroCartoGraphy map as well as I can.
