Today we’d like to introduce you to Manzi Liu.
Hi Manzi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Manzi Liu, I am a visual artist. I embarked on my artistic journey with a unique blend of cultural influences that have shaped my identity as an artist today. Originating from China, I’ve had the extraordinary opportunity to study art in different county included China, France, and the United States. As an artist, my creative process is inspired by my dreams, memories, and aspirations.
My work serves as a canvas where I bring these visions to life. Central to my artistic narrative is the profound influence of my Asian heritage and culture. They serve as the bedrock upon which my artistry thrives, molding my creative expression and identity.
Through this multicultural journey, I have evolved as an artist, blending the essence of various artistic traditions with my perspective. Today, my work is a testament to the harmonious fusion of these diverse influences, reflecting my artistic growth and the rich tapestry of my life experiences.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Professionally getting to where I am today was not easy, but it was a journey that taught me valuable lessons. I used to lack confidence in myself and my abilities, believing that my language barrier would prevent me from getting hired for any job. However, I overcame this challenge by being honest with myself and facing the truth. Although it’s a difficult path, it’s the only one that brings me joy and fulfillment.
As an artist and immigrant, I want the world to know I believe in pursuing one’s passions, even in adversity. My journey has taught me that one should never limit oneself based on perceived limitations or beliefs imposed by others. Instead, it’s essential to go after what you truly love and work tirelessly to make it a reality, no matter the challenges that may arise. By staying true to oneself and persevering, it’s possible to achieve one’s goals and dreams.
I hope to inspire others to follow their paths, regardless of where they come from or what obstacles they face.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a visual artist based in South Florida, originally from China, my artwork reflects my passion for the beauty of human culture, historical objects, and nature.
I draw inspiration from Asian and American cultures and my dreams and memories. By incorporating traditional Oriental elements, such as ancient mythology, clothing, landscapes of historical significance, and antique objects, my style falls somewhere between Surrealism, Expressionism, and some Abstract. I primarily work with acrylics, oils, ink, and oil pastels on canvas or paper to create expressive brush movements and bright colors that evoke emotion.
I specialize in mural, canvas, and live event painting. What sets me apart from others is my unique style and skill that makes me comfortable painting whether it is a very large-scale, small, or living event painting. Yes, I am comfortable painting in front of many people. Another thing is my blend of influences. I strive to tell a story through my art to evoke hope, strength, and joy for those who view it.
I am most proud that I have the talent and skill to make my vision come to life by creating on a canvas, paper, or a wall.
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I am the type of person who is always learning something new.
I often sign up for classes or workshops if I want to study in that area. When you start to get in that area, you will know the people working there. It’s pretty natural and straightforward.
