Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuela Ceballos
Hi Manuela, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Dua Tua is an art project where garments become art to wear, working mainly denim as a canvas so I work from upcycling denim garments to customization, complementing with beads, paintings and decorations to express ideas and emotions through unique pieces.
about the artist behind Dua Tua…
I’m Manuela Ceballos, I am a Colombian artist based in Miami, my professional profile is Advertising and design, but since 2018 I started working on a personal art project Dua Tua working mainly denim as a canvas, I work from upcycling denim garments to customization, complementing with beads, paintings and decorations to express ideas and emotions through unique pieces.
I have the opportunity to exhibit at the Museo del Oro in Bogotá Colombia, to be invited by Levis to intervene the 501 jean, the one that started the history of denim as a garment.
As an experiential denim artist I share the vision of an artistic discipline to improve my personal style, where art manifests emotions, styles and times, where the spaces to share these practices summon visitors to know different visions of the world through unique pieces worked in different techniques that highlight specific moments of history represented by the vision of each artist.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
developing an effective sales method in the art world is complex to negotiate economically and working as a lone artist slows down any process
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Many special embroidery projects flourished during the pandemic and the period of imprisonment, including Quimbaya, a jacket inspired by a series of books and documentaries on the pre-Columbian heritage of the indigenous Quimbaya culture of the coffee-growing region of Colombia.
This jacket, with more than 100 hours of hand embroidery, was part of an important year-long exhibition at the Bank of the Republic and the Gold Museum in Bogota, where it was displayed to the public along with 99 other artists, becoming part of an artistic representation of our ancestors and art.
