Today we’d like to introduce you to Leticia Sánchez.
Hi Leticia, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My love of the visual arts has been with me since I can remember; my mother is an artist, and I grew up surrounded by paints and brushes. I then opted to pursue a career that was completely new to me and that had a lot to do with what I wanted to achieve, graduating in Graphic Design in Havana, Cuba in 2013. This offered me a wealth of technical knowledge, composition, color, and how to digitally modify photographs, and it gave me a much broader and renewed vision to the concepts that I brought with me. In this way, an infinite number of ways to accomplish things and experiment with which I enjoy were regularly revealed to me. Nowadays, I devote far more time to painting than to writing.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest part of the road as a visual artist has been to work hard for a long time and wait for someone to be interested in my work, gallery owners, curators, etc. In this work as a creator, you are alone and everything depends on yourself.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional graphic designer and self-taught visual artist, and this is the last thing I devote my time to. I enjoy developing my work in many pictorial styles, depending on the visual effect required at the time, but I specialize in acrylic and oil painting, always appreciating the infinite possibilities of painting.
I’m most known for intimate small-format works with a brilliant color palette, in which the portrait takes center stage. Basing the work on a tension-filled scene with an unfathomable universality, the artist challenges the viewer to explore multiple aspects of a single theme. The origin of an image is less essential than its ability to select and transmit meaning when creating a context of situations. In cases where images are extracted from reprints or personal photographs, from film or imagination, the message conveyed by the image is what matters.
I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish with my efforts, despite the fact that I’m too demanding and never believe I’ve done my best work. My accomplishments include being the proud mother of a very creative and art-sensitive child, being able to develop my ideas in various projects with personal exhibitions in various countries, and belonging to important private art collections such as the JORGE collection PEREZ, LUCIANO MÉNDEZ, LUCIANO BENNETON, FashionArt “MANU FERNANDEZ,” and others.
My work differs from others in a number of ways, one of which is the theme, because through cinema, which has been another of my passions along with painting and design, I have found an endless source of inspiration, and he has led me to reinvent new atmospheres, with a new visuality close to the film of close-ups and wide shots, which allows me to intervene in my own way, with diluted brushstrokes and more intense color ranges. The aim surpasses the public’s filmic memory to become an inspiration, inner search, aesthetic, and personal enjoyment, despite the distant reference of a classic framing. Female representation is very important and recurring in my work since I observe how we see ourselves through different perspectives.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
You are directly helping us by purchasing any artistic work by new developing talents so that we can continue to create art.
