Conversations with Kyle Fink

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Fink

Hi Kyle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a musician based in Miami, FL, and Los Angeles, CA. I grew up in a really artistic and musical family, so I’ve always been surrounded by creativity. My Mom was a singer and my Dad was a guitar player, so those things in particular really got etched into my psyche from the get go. I was always eyeballing the guitars in my house as a kid, feeling really drawn to them, and around the time I was 9 is when I started to actually pick them up and begin to figure out how to play (still figuring that out even now!).
I started writing little songs pretty shortly after that, and around the time I was 12, I made my first band with my cousin called IN OCULUS. We played our first show when I was 14 in a little backyard in Kendall, FL, and then my teenage years just kind of became dominated by that band. There was a super active punk scene in Miami at that time which we became a part of, and every weekend we were playing shows at places like Gramps, Churchill’s Pub, Etc. So much fun!
After that, I started an alt rock band with my friend Carli Acosta called Palomino Blond (Kanine Records), and pretty immediately got really busy playing shows all around Florida and putting out songs. A lot of really cool things happened during my time with this project! We opened for a lot of cool touring artists, did some festivals, released a bunch of music, got shouted out by Iggy Pop on BBC1 (maybe one of the coolest things of all.
Now, I’m predominantly the touring guitar player for Games We Play (Fueled By Ramen).

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s so amazing to get to a spot where you can be a full-time musician and call it your job, but it definitely comes with it’s trials and tribulations! As every career path does, I feel like. I tour constantly, and when you’re away that much, it’s really easy to start feeling disconnected from home life and to have certain aspects of your personal life take a hit. Also… the pangs of self-doubt never go away, no matter what you achieve. But when you love the pursuit of music so much, you just keep forging ahead, because it’s so beyond worth it!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a touring musician, I’ve been fortunate enough so far to check off a lot of really cool things. I’ve played Madison Square Garden, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Wembley Arena, toured the US like 7 times, I’ve toured EU twice. I’ve also played some dream festivals of mine, like Reading and Leeds, Riot Fest, and When We Were Young.
With Palomino Blond, I wrote and recorded on a lot of the discography that’s out there right now, like ontheinside (2021, Limited Fanfare), and You Feel It Too (2024, Kanine Records).
