Conversations with Kryptic Live

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kryptic Live.

Hi Kryptic, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I was always musical despite not coming from a musical family. Growing up my parents always encouraged me to learn to play an instrument. I did this up until the age of 12 where I discovered DJing through seeing a neighbor of mine doing it. This intrigued me and made me want to try it for myself. From then I began to take it seriously and started to teach myself the craft. I started off DJing at small events and soon after began getting into music production. I then eventually flew to London, England to attend the Brit School where I furthered my study in music production. When I finished my course in the UK, I returned to Jamaica in the midst of the pandemic, where the entertainment industry at the time was on pause. This caused difficulties but I also attribute where I currently am to the work I put in during this period. I ended up hosting my own weekly club event which helped me gain traction as a DJ in Jamaica and from then it has been an upward journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was definitely never a smooth road. Coming up in the space, I felt like age was always a limitation. Starting out so young, it was hard for many people to take me seriously at the time. Despite this, I never got discouraged and continued pushing and used this time to learn the industry and get better at what I did. Over time I built my own network and used this to build my name as a DJ.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a DJ and music producer and I specialize in Dancehall/Reggae and Caribbean music. I’m known for my versatility and high energy sets that I bring to the events/shows I perform at. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made as one of the youngest DJs in Jamaica. Within the past year, I’ve played some of the top events on the island catering to thousands of patrons. I believe my unique energy, style, and versatility sets me apart from any young DJs in this space.

What does success mean to you?
I don’t believe success has anything to do with fame or status. I define success as being happy with where you have reached in whatever you do. If you have reached the peak that you believe you can reach and that is where u are truly proud, then I believe that is success.
