Today we’d like to introduce you to King Kab.
Hi King, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in a home where my grandma and brother both were recording music. I then started going to school for acting ever since 3rd grade and knew for certain what my two paths would be. I went from freestyling with my friends on those Broward School busses, to ending up in a commercial music course at Dillard High School. I had recorded a song with apple headphones and posted it onto Soundcloud. Next thing I knew the song had thousands of streams, which gave me all the confidence I needed to continue walking down this path. I’m going to keep going until I can’t, or until I’ve put my loved ones in comfortable positions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve lost a lot of friends, family, and loved ones along the way. I have often been in my own way by doubting myself or not pushing my art as much as I could. I even feel as though the over-saturation of artists in the music industry today is an obstacle of itself. But my faith overshadows any and all challenges.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Simply put I am an Artist. I wear a few hats. Whether it be songwriting, singing, rapping, poetry, acting, script writing, or photography, I use whatever I can to express myself and my experience. I’m most proud of my music and acting. I think the thing that sets me apart from others is my versatility. Sonically I’m capable of most anything which offers me the freedom to execute songs in ways that most couldn’t, all while maintaining a catchy melody and a relatable message.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Can’t wait for someone to give you an opportunity, you have to go out and make the opportunity.
