Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Johnson.
Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started performing in 2000, however, I always wanted to learn how to “put things together” behind the scenes. I co-produced my first talent show in 1998 when I was at Broward (then-Community) College. We had an actor, a stand-up comedian, and a few singers. Ever since then, I was always looking for a way to bring a variety of performers together on one stage.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It is never smooth. From looking for audiences or looking for venues, there is always an obstacle. It takes passion and perseverance to overcome those pitfalls. One has to be dedicated to being the programmer for the community, by the community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I produce a variety of programs to spotlight local talent. We are always looking for upcoming or seasoned performers to strengthen the local community. And although we always have our recurring Talent I strive to find extra room for talent that I’ve never reached out to. I am proud to have real circulation when it comes to the South Florida Talent Community
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Risk is at the center of what I do when it comes to producing variety shows. I am investing in brands that only local denizens are familiar with friends and family members of the featured act. I invest time and revenue to provide a platform for local Acts; however, it is also up to the local acts to invest in themselves if they want the show to be successful.
The Risk is that if the marketing of the ACT doesn’t come through. Then there is no one in the audience to support them; which damages the return on investment for the said producer.
