Conversations with Joel Toledo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Toledo.

Hi Joel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My infatuation for plants started early in my childhood as a backyard hobby that followed me into adulthood when I attended USF for BS in environmental science and environmental policy, with a minor in Horticulture and a concentration in wetland restoration.

I opened Green Door Nursery in 2007 in a small cabana, and over time grew into the nursery that we all know and love on Bayshore Drive in Naples, Florida. Throughout my career thus far, a love for all things plants continues to inspire me and shape the path of Green Door Nursery.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was in my early 20s when I began this journey, so just like with any young entrepreneur, I had my fair share of struggles early on. It was no easy task to set my business apart from the nurseries that already existed in Southwest Florida as a truly top-tier garden center.

We’re proud to maintain that acknowledgment from our community in the present day, especially regarding the quality and rarity of the plants that we carry, and the utmost knowledge of Florida horticulture that we bring to our landscaping services.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Green Door Nursery, we offer personalized landscaping services, potting services, and design services in addition to our nursery storefront. As the owner and lead designer, I am personally with our clients every step of the way until their vision is brought to fruition. We specialize in the beautification of outdoor living spaces through in-ground planting and custom-potted arrangements.

Our storefront offers a vast array of pottery and fountains, compatible with every aesthetic. We carry a large inventory of notable landscaping plants, rare and unusual finds, indoor and full shade plants, cacti, flowering trees, bromeliads, and more.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way to support my business would be to visit our nursery in person to find your ideal plant or pot. If you’re looking to refresh your landscape or brighten up your patio with a new arrangement, consider hiring Green Door Nursery. In Southwest Florida, word-of-mouth goes far, so we appreciate being recommended for any residential landscaping projects.
